## **REPORT OF THE COMMITTEE FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31 JULY 2024**
The Friends exists to educate the public by promotion, support, assistance and improvement of the Bushey Museum and Art Gallery through the activities of a group of members.
## **MEMBERSHIP**
The membership at the end of the year was 503. The number of members has decreased over the years and the membership is ageing.
## **SUBSCRIPTIONS**
The annual subscriptions are: single £15 (reduced to £14 if the Newsletter is emailed), double £19 (Newsletter emailed £18). Corporate £25. Life Membership: single £120, Joint or Family £180. Our members receive quarterly newsletters, can attend special meetings and outings and holidays.
## **REVIEW OF ACTIVITIES August 2023 - July 2024**
The following outings took place this year:
Saturday 23 September 2023 to Headstone Manor and Headstone Wetlands Park. Saturday 21 October 2023 to Gainsborough’s House, Sudbury in Suffolk. Saturday 21 February 2024 to the National Horseracing Museum in Newmarket. Saturday 6 July 2024 to Hever Castle and Royal Tunbridge Wells in Kent
A tea party was held for the Museum volunteers at The Blue Check on 10 October 2023 to thank them for their efforts in supporting the Museum during the year.
A Gala dinner was arranged by Mr Johal at the Blue Check on 6 March 2024 to raise funds for the Museum. The Friends organised the event and the nett income was paid to the Museum.
A talk was given by Dr Chris Jordan on Herkomer’s Craft and Design on 23[rd] April. As part of the Bushey Festival on 30[th] June two “Walk and Talks” about Herkomer and Lucy Kemp Welch were organised by members of the Friends of Bushey Museum. Unfortunately, the stall selling Museum merchandise at the Festival had to be abandoned because of the weather.
## **DONATIONS AND BEQUESTS**
There have not been any Bequests or major Donations in this Financial Year.
## **FUND RAISING ACTIVITIES**
The 200 Lottery Club raised valuable funds again this year. The committee are always looking for new ways to raise money and would welcome any suggestions from the membership.
The Coffee Morning and Tombola on October 14[th] raised a total of £255.60 while the Arts and Crafts weekend in November raised £569.95. Both events were well attended by the public.
## **ACQUISITIONS**
The Friends continue to seek opportunities to enhance the collection of art in Bushey Museum. This year the Friends have purchased at auctions and private sales: Enamelled Copper Vessels by Herkomer, Watercolour ‘Margate’ by George Apperley, Watercolours by Alexander Monro.
## **OTHER SUPPORT FOR BUSHEY MUSEUM**
Members continue to support the Museum by stewarding, running the Museum shop, the Museum's education activities, curating, mounting exhibitions, running the Museum office, and producing the quarterly newsletter and advertising flyers, and staging events and outings.

## **1. Bases of accounting**
a) These accounts have been prepared under the historical cost convention with items recognised at cost or transaction value unless otherwise stated in the relevant note(s) to
b) The accounts have been prepared in accordance with the Statement of Recommended Practice - Accounting and Reporting by Charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) issued on 16 July 2014, and in accordance with the Charities Act 2011.
c) Legacies are included in the accounts when the charity is advised that payment will be made and the amount involved can be quantified.
d) Assets acquired at a cost of less than £500 and/or having an expected life of less than three years are charged to annual expenditure in the year acquired.

## **3. Investments at cost**
Funds are invested with CCLA Fund Managers Ltd, one of the UK's largest charity fund managers. The value of investments at 31 July 2024 was £420,297 (2023 - £387,536).
## **4. General Fund - Unrestricted**
The General Fund is maintained at a level sufficient to cover costs incurred in the running of the Friends of Bushey Museum for a period of two years. Surplus funds are transferred to the Acquisitions Fund.
## **5. Acquisitions Fund -Unrestricted**
Opportunities to acquire assets for Bushey Museum occur sporadically and sometimes with little notice. The Friends of Bushey Museum policy is to maintain the Acquisitions Fund in order to be well prepared to take opportunities as they become available. The funds remain unrestricted in nature and may ultimately be used by the Friends for any purpose.
