Another successful YFC year for Collingham, with members taking on new roles and responsibilities.
We kicked the year off with our 90th Anniversary Ball held at Newark Showground which was attended by over 400 guests including lots of past and present members including over 20 past chairmen. We held a raffle and charity auction making lots for charity, before guests enjoyed the dodgems and danced the night away to the band and DJ. Once again, a massive well done to the 90th Ball committee for all their hard work and putting on an unforgettable night.
Starting to get into the Christmas spirit we got involved with the Collingham Christmas light switch on decorating our float with a Christmas tree and lots of lights, we then took to the streets of the village escorted by the fireman and accompanied by a group of Santa’s spreading Christmas cheer and collecting donations for the Collingham food pantry before ending up in the co-op carpark for the official light switch on.
Next was our annual Christmas meal which was held at the Pyewipe in Lincoln.
After the Christmas break, we started the New Year off with our first ever Christmas tree collection, collecting over 100 trees from Collingham and the surrounding area raising money for LRSN. A big thank you to all members that got involved and supplied trucks and trailers.
Members also carried on the long tradition of carrying the plough into Newark church for plough Sunday.
Next it was Notts County Ball where members enjoyed a great night coming away with lots of awards, congratulations to Jess C for winning junior member of the year, Isabel C for winning Senior member of the year and Thomas HJ for winning Mr YFC.
In February we attended the Collingham Spring Ploughing Match where we hosted a have a go at ploughing area with the tractor and plough kindly sponsored by Sharmans Agriculture. It was great seeing members and the public experiencing ploughing.
Members then took to Skegness for the annual EMA weekender where some members competed at junior and senior member of the year competitions, with others taking to the sports pitches competing in rounders and hockey competitions. Members also got dressed up as cowboys and cowgirls for the social side of the weekend, I think it’s safe to say Collingham know how to party, but we will leave that there for now.
Not defeated by the snow 3 of our members Jack, Henry and Oliver, joined by 3 Tuxford members cycled over 60 miles to Skegness raising over £2000 for Dementia and Alzheimer’s charities. Even if they were a few weeks late for the EMA weekend.
Spring Rally was next where members got involved in lots of competitions including tug of war and lawnmower racing in which we won the ladies race.
We also hosted our exchange club Langport YFC from Somerset finishing their visit off with a farm tour around Chennells and Sunday lunch at The Plough pub Swinderby.
Notts County Show was our next big competition where members put lots of time and effort into their entries and I think it’s safe to say we stole the show coming home with trophies for stock judging, movie maker and cube exhibit including winning the overall show, and not forgetting winning club of the year.
Followed by County Rally where Collingham came in force getting involved in all the competitions on offer, coming home with lots of place cards and the trophy for highest points in the cookery and water race combined.
We then finished off the year with some annual weed beet pulling and our end of year summer BBQ where the rain didn’t stop us reflecting on a successful year.
Members also attended the Notts YFC summer party in an array of flowery shirts with our final meeting before harvest being a tour around Blankney Hunt Kennels.
All this wouldn’t be possible without the committee and all the members and parents, so thank you all for your continued support and dedication and I hope this continues into the next YFC year. Let’s bring back even more silver wear.
