For the year ended 31 May 2025
The Trustees present their annual report with the financial statements of the Charity for the year ended 31 May 2025. The Trustees have adopted the provisions of Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102), effective 1 January 2019.

HHH Concerts is an unincorporated association governed by a constitution dated 16 June 1994, amended 8 July 2019. It registered as a Charity with the Charity Commission on 8 July 1994.

Objects of the charity
The objects of the Society are to promote public education in, and appreciation of, the art and science of music in all its aspects by any means the trustees see fit including in particular through the presentation of public concerts and recitals
Trustees
Trustees are elected at the Annual General Meeting of the charity. They receive no remuneration or other benefits from the charity in their capacity as trustees. Trustees serve for up to three periods of three years, subject to re-election at the AGM.

Trustee Responsibilities
The Trustees are responsible for preparing the Trustees’ Report and the Financial Statements in accordance with applicable law and United Kingdom Accounting Standards (United Kingdom Generally Accepted Accounting Practice).
The law applicable to charities in England and Wales requires the Trustees to prepare financial statements for each year which give a true and fair view of the state of affairs of the Charity and of the incoming resources and application of resources of the Charity for that period. In preparing these financial statements, the Trustees are required to:

e Select suitable accounting policies and then apply them consistently;

e observe the methods and principles in the Charities SORP;

@ make judgements and estimates that are reasonable and prudent;

e state whether applicable accounting standards have been followed, subject to any material departures disclosed and explained in the financial statements;

® prepare the financial statements on the going concern basis unless it is inappropriate to presume that the Charity will continue in operation.
The Trustees are responsible for keeping accounting records that disclose with reasonable accuracy at any time the financial position of the Charity and enable them to ensure that the financial statements comply with the Charities Act 2011, the Charity (Accounts Reports) Regulations 2008 and trust deed. They are also responsible for safeguarding the assets of the Charity and hence for taking reasonable steps for the prevention of fraud and other irregularities.

Summary of activities during the year
The programme for the year from July 2024 to May 2025 again totalled 17 public concerts and the task of managing all of these has been a wonderful achievement by our group of volunteers.
Total income for the year was £46,823 (2024 - £35,651) and total expenditure was£41,392 (2024 - £26,076). The surplus for the year was £5,431 (2024 £9,575). The balance of the Reserve Fund as at 31 May 2025 was £50,502 (31May 2023 £45,071). The reserves as at 31 May 2025 do not include any restricted funds (31 May 2024 - £92).
Our year began in July with an open-air concert by the Bone-Afide trombone quartet in the garden of the Haslemere Educational Museum, inviting families to enjoy professional music in a much-loved local setting.
The flagship series of six Saturday evening concerts featured fine performances of imaginative programmes
The Tippett Quartet, with Lynn Arnold, piano, and Lisa Friend, flute; whose programme included a number of compositions by local composer Clive Osgood.
A full house piano concert by Hao Zi Yoh featuring Chopin 28 Preludes Op 28
The Kleio Quartet playing works by Haydn, Britten and Bartok
The Queen’s Six, an acapella vocal ensemble from the lay members of the choir of St George’s Chapel, Windsor with songs from 16" to 21* century
The United Strings of Europe who included Shostakovich String Quartet No 8 in the composer's centenary year
Emanuil Ivanov, piano, playing a selection of Shostakovich Preludes and Fugues and the exciting modern Sonata Ill by Sir Stephen Hough
Two additional concerts attracted full houses for exceptional concerts. The performance by the Trio Shaham, Erez, Wallfisch of Shostakovich Trio No 2 was exceptional; but for many beaten by Angela Hewitt with J.S.Bach’s Goldberg Variations, played to the largest ever HHH Concerts audience. Seasoned international concert goers described it as “magical”. It was also a pleasure for the audience to meet and chat with Angela. The concert raised more than £6,000 for The Meath Epilepsy Charity in Godalming.

Summary of activities during the year (continued)
Our accessible lunchtime concerts are attracting a new audience and are proof of HHH reaching more widely into the community. Almost two hundred year 5/6 school children from five local primary schools attended the variety of lunchtime concerts; and also their teachers and carers. Eighty teenagers at Woolmer Hill secondary school enjoyed a performance in November by the Majorelle Trio. The young persons’ attendance was funded by HHH membership of the Cavatina Music Trust and a grant from The Humphrey Richardson Taylor Charitable Trust.
We have built strong relationships with classical music charities who audition, award and support young professionals starting their careers. We thank The Countess of Munster Trust, The Keyboard Trust, Kirckman Concerts and The Philharmonia Orchestra for their help in selecting outstanding musicians to our concerts.
We continue to enjoy the facility and wonderful acoustic of St Christopher's church, and our thanks go to the Rector and his team for the use of it. The new Shigeru Kawai concert grand piano has performed marvellously and is much appreciated by visiting top class pianists.
Over the season we also have had concerts in the Hindhead Music Centre and at St Bartholomew’s church. We believe that it is a powerful delivery of HHH charitable objects to engage with the community more widely. In January 2025 two solo piano coffee concerts were held, fundraising for the Hunter Centre in Haslemere, supporting those living with dementia. In February 2025 we welcomed teenage cello sensation Hugo Svedberg, a winner of the Haslemere International String competition, who raised funds for the local Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice.
To manage this enlarged programme several new volunteers joined our friendly team. It is an ongoing process to plan for the succession of volunteers who have delivered long and valued service.
The new season is released this month with an exciting programme of Saturday evening concerts by world class professionals and a supporting schedule of coffee, lunchtime and afternoon concerts at accessible timings.
Again, we will welcome the children of five local primary schools to enjoy classical chamber music for the first time; and we will present two concerts fundraising for the Hunter Centre for Dementia and the Haslemere Hospital League of Friends.

Finally, we wish to record the loss in the last twelve months of two of our good friends and supporters; Rodney Sutton who was trustee and treasurer up to 2024 and John Jeffrey, previously trustee and treasurer and also a marvellous benefactor both personally and through the Oonagh Jeffrey charitable trust. We miss them both and have sent condolences to their families.

Statement regarding activities for the public benefit
in planning our activities trustees have had regard to the charity commission guidance on public benefit.
Access for all young persons up to age 25 is offered free of charge; and depending on the nature of the concert some young persons attendance attracted external funding. All teachers and carers bring young persons to our concerts are welcomed free of charge.
Friends and Supporters
The Trustees are extremely grateful to the individuals and organisations that continue to support our activities.
Reserves Policy
The Trustees are aware of the importance of retaining sufficient reserves to enable the Charity to continue its operations. The Trustees consider the Charity’s current financial position to be healthy.
Risk Management
The Trustees have reviewed the risks to which the Charity is exposed. The Trustees believe that significant progress has been made in both increasing the number of concerts and the audience numbers. However, we feel more can be done to promote the work of the Charity and are focused on activities to achieve this. As the Charity considers options to expand its work further, new risks may be identified. The Trustees are committed to evaluating these risks and taking action to mitigate the risks where necessary.

Independent examiner’s report to the trustees of HHH Concerts
| report to the Charity trustees on my examination of the accounts of HHH Concerts (the Charity) for the year ended 31 May 2025 as set out on pages 7 to 15.
Responsibilities and basis of the report
As the charity trustees of the Charity, you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 (“the Act”)

1. STATUTORY INFORMATION
HHH Concerts is a registered charity registered in England and Wales. The Charity’s registered and registered address is set out in the Trustees’ Report.
2. ACCOUNTING POLICIES
Basis of preparing the financial statements
The financial statements of the Charity, which is a public benefit entity under FRS102, have been prepared in accordance with the Charities SORP(FRS102) ‘Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS102) (effective1January2019), Financial Reporting Standard102, The Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland’ and the Charities Act 2011. The financial statements have been prepared under the historical cost convention.
Critical accounting judgements and key sources of estimation uncertainty
In the application of the Charity's accounting policies the trustees are required to make judgements estimates and assumptions about the carrying amount of assets and liabilities that are not readily apparent from other sources. The estimates and associated assumptions are based on historical experience and other factors that are considered to be relevant. Actual results may differ from these estimates.
The estimates and underlying assumptions are reviewed on an ongoing basis. Revisions to accounting estimates are recognised in the period in which the estimate is revised where the revision affects only that period or in the period of revision and future periods where the revision affects both current and future periods.
There were no estimates or assumptions which havea significant risk of causing a material adjustment to the carrying amount of assets and liabilities.
Income and Donations
Income received for specific or general charitable purposes is reflected in its entirety in the Statement of Financial Activities unless specific conditions exist which have not been fulfilled at the accounting reference date. Income receivable is reviewed on an entitlement, certainty and measurement basis. Income not meeting this criterion is treated as deferred income.

Expenditure
Expenditure is accounted for on an accruals basis.
Costs of raising funds are those costs incurred in attracting voluntary income and those incurred in activities that raise funds.
Charitable activities include expenditure associated with concerts organised by the society and include both the direct costs and support costs relating to those activities. The Charity is not registered for VAT and where applicable expenditure is inclusive of VAT.
Taxation
The Charity is exempt from tax on its charitable activities.
Fund Accounting
Unrestricted funds can be used in accordance with the charitable objectives at the discretion of the Trustees.
Restricted funds can only be used for particular restricted purposes within the objects of the Charity. Restrictions arise when specified by the donor or when funds are raised for particular restricted purposes.
Going Concern
At the time of approving the accounts, the Trustees have a reasonable expectation that the Charity has adequate resources to continue in operational existence for the foreseeable future. Thus, the Trustees continue to adopt the going concern basis of accounting in preparing the accounts.

All the expenditure related directly to the provision of concerts.
There was a small underspend of the restricted grant from Community Foundation Surrey in 2024 this balance has subsequently been allocated against expenditure of a concert in the year ended 31 May 2025 which met the conditions of the grant.
The Trustees of the Charity have not received any remuneration for their role as a Trustee.

In January 2024, the Charity entered into an agreement with the Friends of the Parish of Haslemere and the Haslemere Festival for the use of a concert quality grand piano for a period of 15 years and £7,450 consideration was paid at the commencement of the agreement. Prepayments include £6,694 in respect the unexpired period.
