Summary of activities during the year

The programme for the year from October 2023 to May 2024 totalled 17 concerts and the task of managing all of these has been a wonderful achievement by our group of volunteers.

Total income for the year was £35,651 (2023 - £22,576) and total expenditure was£26,076 (2023 - £22,192). The surplus for the year was £9,575 (2023 £384). The balance of the Reserve Fund at 31 May 2024 was £45,071 (31May 2023 £35,496). The reserves at 31 May 2024 include restricted funds of £92 (31 May 2023 - £nil).

in addition to the prestige series of six Saturday evening concerts at St Christopher's, HHH Concerts presented three lunchtime duo concerts in October; a further three lunchtime piano solo concerts and one trio in February; two piano recitals at Hindhead Music Centre, reviving an old tradition; a school outreach concert at Woolmer Hill secondary school and a grand finale in St Christopher's by the London Handel Players, in support of the Tilford Bach Festival.

It is difficult to pick out individual performances, but very positive comments were made by audiences at the St Christopher’s Saturday evening concerts for

All performances at HHH Concerts are given by top professionals; some building their careers and some at the peak of international reputation and experience. During this year several of our performers have received financial support from the Keyboard Trust and Kirckman Concerts.

Audiences have been gradually increasing with full houses achieved for The Sitkovetsky Trio, The Consone Quartet and the London Handel Players. The lunchtime concerts are attracting a new audience and are proof of HHH reaching more widely into the community.

Summary of activities during the year (continued)

A total of 278 year 5/6 school children from five local primary schools attended the variety of lunchtime concerts; and also 38 teachers and carers. The young persons’ attendance was funded partly by HHH membership of the Cavatina Music Trust and partly by a grant from Community Foundation Surrey.

At the beginning of 2024 HHH Concerts joined with the Friends of the Parish of Haslemere and the Haslemere Festival to purchase an outstanding new hand-crafted Shigeru Kawai concert grand piano, of a size appropriate to the St Christopher's space. This investment gives HHH Concerts consistent use of a fine piano in either of the two churches and also saves, over time, a substantial cost of piano hire.

We continue to enjoy the facility and wonderful acoustic of St Christopher’s church and our thanks go to the Rector and his team for the use of it. Over the season we also have had concerts in the Hindhead Music Centre the garden of the Haslemere Educational Museum and at St Bartholomew’s church. We believe that it is a powerful delivery of HHH charitable objects to widen access by the community.

To manage this enlarged programme several new volunteers joined our friendly team. It is an ongoing process to plan for the retirement of volunteers who have delivered long and valued service. In March 2024 all our operational concert volunteers attended on online course on “Introduction to Safeguarding”.

Statement regarding activities for the public benefit

In planning our activities trustees have had regard to the charity commission guidance on public benefit.

Access for all young persons up to age 25 is offered free of charge; and depending on the nature of the concert some young persons attendance attracted external funding. All teachers and carers bring young persons to our concerts are welcomed free of charge.

Friends and Supporters

The Trustees are extremely grateful to the individuals and organisations that continue to support our activities.

Reserves Policy

The Trustees are aware of the importance of retaining sufficient reserves to enable the Charity to continue its operations. The Trustees consider the Charity’s current financial position to be healthy.

Risk Management

The Trustees have reviewed the risks to which the Charity is exposed. The Trustees believe that significant progress has been made in both increasing the number of concerts and the audience numbers. However, we feel more can be done to promote the work of the Charity and are focused on activities to achieve this. As the Charity considers options to expand its work further, new risks may be identified. The Trustees are committed to evaluating these risks and taking action to mitigate the risks where necessary.
