The Friends of Rodmarton School
Chairman's Report
for the Year Ended 31 August 2024
I became Chair of the Friends Committee in September 2022, when my daughter Tabitha entered Reception class. My
wife and I agreed that it would be nice to devote some time to the Friends, especially as our two older children had such
a happy and precious time at Rodmarton, thanks to the teaching staff and Friends committee who were serving at the
Thank you for your ongoing support of the Friends of Rodmarton and I look forward to the year ahead.
Yours faithfully,
Andrew Kojima

Report of the Trustees
for the Year Ended 3l August 2024
The trustees present their report with the financial statements of the charity for the year ended 31 August 2024. The
trustees have adopted the provisions of Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice
applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the
UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) (effective 1 January 2019).
OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES
Objectives and aims
For those new to the school community, The Friends of Rodmarton is our PTA; all parents are automatically members
when their children enrol at the school. Our children and their teachers obviously appreciate parental input. For the
parents, being proactive in the PTA is good for the soul and reinforces values such as kindness, cooperation,
responsibility, empathy and gratitude. By setting an example to our children, we help to promote a caring community to
be happy and proud to be part of.
Also another objective is to advance the education of the pupils in the school. The association aims to:
- Develop more extended relationships between the staff, parents and others associated with the school.
- Engage in activities which support the school and advance the education of the pupils attending it.
Above all else The Friends of Rodmarton are committed to ensuring that the children are rewarded with fun and
exciting opportunities and events throughout the year, together with sociable and creative opportunities for parents,
ACHIEVEMENTS AND PERFORMANCE
Fundraising activities
This year we have raised over £9,000, through regular donations, the Christmas advent raffle, mufti days, Christmas
sales, bar sales, second hand clothing
sales and events such as the Senses quiz, wreath-making and
cake-decorating.
In addition to this, the Braude Family donated £24,000 in September. This donation was made specifically for Special
Educational Needs (SEN) support and
an additional Teaching Assistant (TA), helping many children
throughout the school. By making the donation via the Friends of Rodmarton, rather than directly to the school, Gift
Aid contributed a further £6,000.
Expenditure
The Committee engages with the school regularly and receives expenditure requests for academic and cultural trips,
teachers' wish lists, capital expenditure, and items that the Friends traditionally pay for each year, such as Rodmarton
teddies for new Reception children and Leavers' Hoodies. The Committee agreed a budget of £1,000 per class to fulfil
teachers' wish lists, giving them autonomy on smaller purchases such as books, and a further €1,000 per class towards
school trips. The other highlight was the construction of a new covered outdoor classroom in the playground.

The Committee is also always open to ideas from parents. If you spot an area of school life that you feel we should try
to improve, please get in touch with or even join the Committee, where you can have an even more direct say and
active role in decision-making.

FINANCIAL REVIEW
Financial position
During the year total income received from donations and fundraising events totalled £41,918.
Expenses incurred from this income totalled £43,043
The bank of funds held has decreased to £6,499 (2023 £7624)
Investment policy and objectives
As part of our fiduciary duty to our members and the community we serve, we confirm the following:
- The Friends of Rodmarton PTA does not and will not engage in any form of financial investment, including but not
limited to stocks, bonds, mutual funds, or other market instruments.
- All monies raised through fundraising, donations, or other sources will be spent directly on projects resources and
activities that support and enrich the education and wellbeing of the pupils of The Friends of Rodmarton School.
- Surplus funds held temporarily (e.g. in a bank account between events or expenditure cycles) will be retained in
non-interest bearing or basic current accounts, solely for the purpose of liquidity and transparency
- The PTA committee will ensure that all expenditures align with the charity's objectives and are fully accounted for in
financial reports to members and stakeholders.
This policy will be reviewed annually or sooner if circumstances change, to ensure ongoing relevance and compliance
with charity regulations and PTA best practices
Reserves policy
General Reserves Approach
- The Friends of Rodmarton PTA does not operate with a fixed reserve target but aims to maintain a healthy and
responsible bank balance at all times.
- This reserve ensures the PTA can continue to run key community events and respond to unexpected costs or
opportunities.

FUTURE PLANS
How to get involved
As well as looking to repeat tried and tested events, we are open to new ideas to keep things fresh and exciting.
particular, we rely on parents stepping forward to volunteer their time to events. Many hands make light work, when it
comes to planning, setting up and clearing away.
There are 3 ways that you can get involved and help build the Rodmarton community.
1. A recurring donation via standing order, ideally with Gift Aid
2. Donate your time to helping conceive and execute events
3. Support the events by contributing or attending
Thank you to all of you who regularly volunteer; we welcome new faces with fresh ideas to drive the Friends of
Rodmarton forward, either formally on the Committee, or informally on our panel of volunteers. In particular, we are
looking for individuals who would be interested in taking on the following roles for a minimum of one year, but ideally
two to three to help manage smooth transitions as the Committee changes from year to year:
Raffles and sponsorship officer
Around half of our income is raised by reaching out to local businesses for raffle prizes and sponsorship. The
sponsorship officer will appeal for prizes, coordinate ticket sales, distribute prizes and thank donors. This role will suit
an outgoing and persuasive person.
We would like to find someone who likes research and would apply for grants, typically for larger scale projects. This
person will work closely with the school and the Friends committee to identify and apply for significant funding from
trusts, local authorities and businesses.
Store manager / Second-hand uniform coordinator
We would like to find someone who takes pleasure in having a clear out, sorting and organising the accumulation of
clobber, such as decorations, consumables and clothing donations.
If any particular events grab your imaginations, we're looking for organised people who can take charge of an event
with careful planning, risk assessments, organise bookings and licensing, plan infrastructure (power, lighting, layout
etc).
STRUCTURE, GOVERNANCE AND MANAGEMENT
Governing document
The charity is controlled by its governing document, a deed of trust and constitutes an unincorporated charity.
Organisational structure
The Committee is made of one Chair and three Trustees.
Decision making
ecisions on funding are brought to the committee and discussed. Each Committee Member has an equal voting tigl
aiority decision wins. In the instance of a tie, the Chair has the deciding vot
