Murray ## **Trustees Report:** **2 |** P a g e AFRICAN REVIVAL MINSITRIES (UK) ANNUAL ACCOUNTS The trustees submit their annual report and financial statements for African Revival Ministries (UK) for the year ended 31[st] December 2021. African Revival Ministries (UK) is a registered charity (No: 1037971). Its objects and powers are set out in its Memorandum and Articles of Association. The charity has four trustees, all voluntary. The charity was established to support the work of African Revival Ministries Burundi and the associate organisations in D.R Congo and Rwanda; to promote the work and act as liaison in respect of funds raised for the work in East and Central Africa. The work is centred in Humanitarian Relief and Development, with a focus on education, health care, child safety. The trustees delegate the day to day activities within the United Kingdom to the Chair and the UK Director (unpaid). He is also responsible, where appropriate, for liaison with ARM Burundi contacts in Europe and the USA. ARM Burundi is registered in Burundi as an international NGO under the auspices of African Revival Ministries (UK) The Main Burundi contacts are: Pastor Edmond Kivuye (International Director), Vestine Kanyamuneza (ARM Burundi National Director) and Ms.Liz Stephens, Director of the Kings School. Our activities continued to address the challenges within the projects in Burundi and support the ongoing project activities, mainly the King’s School. The funding in 2021 was primarily for the King’s School, Bujumbura (Part of ARM Burundi). Fundraising for CRIB (Children Rescued in Burundi) is now managed through Rainbow Trust, a UK charity. We report that the Founder of CRIB, Chrissie Chapman, died in October 2021. We recognise her amazing work on behalf of children in Burundi. The Director and Principal of the King’s School (Liz Stephens) started work in September 2017. We wish to recognize her work and achievements within the context of political and social challenges in Burundi. However, we have some concerns as to the ongoing uncertainty within Burundi and its impact on the school and the recruitment of qualified staff. Many of these come from outside Burundi. We have also advised the school management on the need to strengthen financial structure and reporting as the school grows in the number of students. This is being handled by the Financial Department of ARM Burundi in conjunction with independent auditors. We are confident that all funds raised in the UK for the King’s School are being properly allocated. The majority of payments are to UK organisations. **3 |** P a g e AFRICAN REVIVAL MINSITRIES (UK) ANNUAL ACCOUNTS Currently we are not receiving any income from outside of the UK, although we have been advised of a potential donor from Canada, and funds will come to the ARM King’s School account The Directors regularly communicate with the on the ground partner (ARM Burundi) to ensure that funds and GIK donations are being used within the remit of the donations and to ensure that there are no risk liabilities for the UK charity. Our International Director Edmond Kivuye is now based in Rwanda. Due to security issues the UK Director has not travelled to Burundi in the past year. ARM UK does not generate funds for supporting ARM in the UK, other than limited administration support, and is simply a support charitable organisation. The King’s School in Bujumbura comes under the cover of ARM Burundi. The charity objectives are that the work and funds generated will be solely used for the relief and development of persons irrespective of ethnic group, race, social status and based on need. A key aspect is the support of children and young people. The Trustees estimate that the funds and goods donated by ARM UK have impacted the following: ## **Directly:** 500 vulnerable children 800 plus children at the King’s School 40 children and young adults at CRIB (Children Rescued in Burundi) 30 orphans from Burundi now living in Rwanda ## **Indirectly:** 2,000 family members. ## **Moving Forward:** The trustees do not envisage any major growth during 2022, due to the underlying situation in Burundi, although we are anticipating a reasonable increase in income for the King’s School. We will seek to support the work in Burundi. The key focus will be enabling the continuation of the King’s School activities. ## **Statement of Trustees Responsibilities:** Charity Law requires the Trustees to prepare financial statements for each financial year, which give a true and fair view of the state of affairs of the charity and its financial activities for that period. **4 |** P a g e AFRICAN REVIVAL MINSITRIES (UK) ANNUAL ACCOUNTS In preparing these financial statements the Trustees are required to: - Select suitable accounting policies and then apply consistently - Make judgements and estimates that are reasonable and prudent - State whether the policies adopted are in accordance with applicable accounting standards, subject to any material departures disclosed and explained in the financial statements - Prepare financial statements on the ongoing concern basis unless it is appropriate to assume that the charity will not continue in business. ## **Reserves Policy:** As the charity receives and distributes specific donations for the various projects, the charity does not have allocated reserves. Donations are received on either a restricted or unrestricted basis for the work in Burundi and allocated according to the Trustees decision or in line with the donation requirement. ## **Financial Review:** The income showed a substantial increase on 2020. We anticipate a further increase in 2022, mainly for the King’s School. Future support for CRIB is now handled through the Rainbow Trust, which is a separate charity and ARM UK does not have any involvement in the management of this trust. There were no restricted funds. Income was £34,987 (2020 £19,680) Expenditure was £37,121 (2020: £19,888) Bank balances at the 31[st] December 2020 totalled **£3,677** We are grateful to our independent examiner for his work in assisting with the completion of our annual accounts. The charity’s trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year under Section 144 (2) of the Charities Act 2011 and that an independent examination is needed. It is my responsibility to: - Examine the accounts under Section 145 of the 2011 Act. - To follow the procedures laid down in the General Directions given by the Charity Commissioner under Section 145 (5)(b) of the 2011 Act, and - To state whether particular matters have come to my attention. ## **Basis of Independent Examiner’s Report** My examination was carried out in accordance with the general directions given by the Charity Commission. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with these records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts and seeking explanations as appropriate and relevant. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required by an independent audit, and consequently no opinion is given as to whether the accounts present a ‘true and fair’ view and the report is limited to those matters set out in the statement below. ## **Independent Examiners Statement** **6 |** P a g e AFRICAN REVIVAL MINSITRIES (UK) ANNUAL ACCOUNTS In connection with my examination, no critical matter has come to my attention. 1. Which gives me reasonable cause to believe that, in any material respect, the requirement: - To keep accounting records in accordance with section 130 of the 2011 Act; and - To prepare accounts which accord with the accounting records and to comply with the accounting requirements of the 2011 Act have not been met; or 2. To which in my opinion, attention should be drawn to enable a proper understanding of the accounting to be reached. I would note that the financial information for the 2021 examination was able to be provided well within the required time with improvement in reporting from Burundi enabling early completion of the Annual Return and Financial Statement.
