1. Basic Details

Name: Rotary Club of Watford Trust Fund Registration Number: 1037547 Address: 10 Crane Lodge Wharf Lane RICKMANSWORTH Hertfordshire WD3 1GG Trustees during the year Rabi Martins Michael Hammond David Charman Denise Wellham Richard Goates David Silverston Ali Irteza (appointed 7 May 2025) Alan Elgey (appointed 7 May 2025)

2. Charity Structure

The Rotary Club of Watford is part of the worldwide organisation, Rotary International and was formed in 1924.

The purpose of the club is to provide support to other local, national and international charities and other needy causes. All funds for charitable purposes are administered through the Trust Fund. The general costs of running the club are funded by its members from subscriptions and specific social events. Funds raised from the public are held in the Trust Fund and are not used for this purpose. No members, including Trustees, receive payment for their participation in the club.

The Trustees of the Trust Fund are ex officio the President, Immediate Past President, Secretary and Treasurer of the Rotary Club and also two members, elected at the AGM of the Club.

In the current year Denise Wellham took over as Treasurer from David Charman who was leaving the area. The appointment of Alan Elgey reflected the agreement for him to take over as Treasurer for the following year on 1 July 2025, with Denise Wellham moving to the role of Secretary. The appointment of Ali Irteza reflected his election as President for 2025/26.

3. Achievements and Performance

In 2024/25, the Rotary Club of Watford donated £22,752 (97%) to charitable causes from a net surplus for the year of £23,377. These donations were in 4 main categories: Local Charities (74.3%), Local Activities (8.7%), International Activities (11.8%), Rotary Foundation (5.2%).

Distributions to local charities were directed primarily to the support of mental health and community causes, which were the focus of the President’s year. The environmental objectives were also supported by a boost to our Big Green Week activities started in the previous year and which are likely to grow again in the coming year.

We run a number of local activities including support of Kids Out, an annual Rotary event to enable disadvantaged children to experience Whipsnade Zoo. We also participated in Rotary Youth Activiies with success in the Young Chef competition.

We give annually to the Rotary Foundation (the charitable fund of Rotary International, through which large projects are supported; Rotary Club of Watford has benefitted from this in the past. We also support the Rotary End Polio campaign

4. Financial Review including details of the Reserves Policy

The policy of the Rotary Club of Watford is to donate the money raised within the same financial year unless the project being funded is to be carried out in the forthcoming year in which case it will be held as a Restricted fund or an Unrestricted Designated Fund as the case may be.

The club holds a small designated reserve of £858.11 which will be used in the memory of deceased members of the Club

The club holds a general charity reserve which allows the club to make donations to worthwhile causes especially in the early part of the financial year where funds are at their lowest. This may be used to support charities in areas where there has been a natural disaster such as earthquake, hurricane or flooding. The reserve held at 30 June 2025 was £8,474.67.
