2. Charity Structure

The Rotary Club of Watford is part of the worldwide organization Rotary International and was formed in February 1924

The purpose of the club is to provide support to other local, national and international charities and other needy causes. All funds raised for charitable purposes are administered through the trust fund.

Donations are only made to charities and other bodies were there is a defined need for funds and where the recipient of the donation is able to demonstrate a requirement and purpose for the funds.

The club generally supports local charities, nominated by that year’s President and members The club membership decides on other charitable giving by ballot, each members having one vote.

The trustees of the Charity Fund are the President, treasurer and secretary of the Rotary club and two members of the club, elected at the AGM of the club.

3. Achievements and Performance

In this financial year our main charities supported were Save a Childs Heart and Watford Social Centre for the Blind. The monies raised for Save A Childs Heart were raised alongside several other Rotary Clubs and were match funded to purchase a medical mannequin to assist in training paediatric heart surgeons. The monies raised for Watford Social Centre for the Blind were put towards essential building renovations.

We give annually to the Rotary Foundation (the charitable fund of Rotary International), the Rotary end Polio campaign and support the annual Kids Out day.

Please see the below extracts from the accounts for all amounts raised and donated.

4. Financial Review including details of the Reserve Policy.

The Policy of the Rotary Club of Watford is to donate the money is raises within the same financial year, unless the project being funded is to be carried out in the forthcoming year.

We also hold £830.00 from a legacy from one of our past members Malcolm Jones. We have looked at two or three projects in in his memory, but nothing has come to fruition. We will continue to explore opportunities to do so in the forthcoming Rotary year.

The club holds a charity reserve (£7,877.73) which allows the club to make donations to worthwhile causes, but is normally used to support charities in areas where there has been a natural disaster such as an earthquake, hurricane or flooding and where there is a need for immediate support for shelters, sanitation and clean water.
