## Nanstallon Pre-School Chairperson’s Report September 2023 - August 2024

Nanstallon Pre-School is situated at the heart of the community, working in partnership with parents and community groups to provide high quality care in the very best facilities, in a small village setting.

We are fortunate to have a purpose built, eco-building offering a bright and spacious area in which we aim to give each child the best start in life by laying solid foundations for future learning; where children can explore the world around them, establish friendships, develop imagination, share, co-operate with others, gain confidence to initiate and try out new ideas, seek new challenges, make new discoveries, and most of all have great fun and develop a love of learning.

We are registered with OFSTED and currently hold a ‘Good’ outcome from our last inspection in January 2023. We provide sessional day care, welcoming children the term after they turn two years to five years. We have qualified, experienced, friendly staff who provide a fun, caring environment for the children to learn through play and adult led activities. Our Early Years Manager, Vicky Lafford, has Early Years Teacher Status.

Over the year we do our best to accommodate as many children as possible without compromising our policy of small group numbers and trying to offer parents the sessions they require. We continue to provide taster sessions for new starters where parents with children that are due to start with us are invited into Pre-School for a couple of sessions. They offer children the opportunity to play within the Pre-School whilst the parents can meet the staff, to ask any questions and can see their child enjoying themselves in the setting. These relaxed and informal sessions enable children to feel more confident when they first start with us, allowing them to settle much more quickly. They also provide parents/carers with the opportunity to meet other parents, offering them the chance to make friends and build a support network.

This year we have continued to host fundraising activities and have had some very successful events. Some of our staff and parents took part in the annual Ten Tors sponsored walk, plus we have raised money for other charities including Comic Relief and Save the Children. The funds raised this year have allowed us to improve the main room, buy more sensory toys and replace popular equipment such as a garden climbing frame. Our outdoor facilities aim to provide a safe and stimulating environment, whatever the weather, which not only supports outdoor learning and encourages creative play but offers the opportunity to get muddy and wet, where children can let off steam and exercise while having fun. We have also had new flooring laid on our covered decked area, where our children spend a great deal of time. We continue to run weekly football sessions with a local football coach who visits the Pre-School and we also offer our children an end of year Pre-School day trip where parents have the opportunity to get together with the children before the older children head off to Primary School.

Despite the ongoing challenges facing the childcare sector, Nanstallon Pre-School continues to be a thriving charity, which is supported by the local community and many local families, both from the village and surrounding areas. The majority of our children feed into Nanstallon Primary School, conveniently located next to the Pre-School site, allowing the transition from Pre-School to Primary to be as smooth as possible. We had 24 children leave us for ‘big school’ at the end of July 2024.

We pride ourselves on our small village feel and on running a professional and friendly PreSchool.
