## **CHARITY ACTIVITIES**

We are a small, community-based charity that has been working for over thirty years with people of Gypsy origin who live in permanent housing in a

rural area. This community experiences significant disadvantage due to poverty, isolation, high unemployment, and serious health issues.

Through our long-term work and local research, we have identified a strong and ongoing need for our services. The individuals and families we support regularly ask for help with day-to-day tasks, and demand for our support is high. Many members of the community have low literacy levels, and there is also a high level of disability. Unfortunately, there are very limited alternative services available to meet these needs.

We work closely with a wide range of agencies, including housing providers, education services, the police, NHS services, social services, and other voluntary organisations. These agencies often rely on us to make initial contact and maintain community engagement.

A significant part of our work involves advocacy. We represent this ethnic minority by promoting their needs, rights, and cultural background, and by supporting individuals and families in their interactions with statutory and voluntary services.

By working directly within the community and advocating on behalf of individuals and families, we help to improve health, well-being, and overall quality of life. We also provide a varied programme of activities designed to increase independence, skills, and opportunities for personal development.

Our close partnership working ensures that health, welfare, environmental, social, and educational needs are met more effectively and efficiently.

The charity employs two part-time community care workers and is supported by regular volunteers. Our community workers provide one-to-one support for families and individuals, helping with issues such as housing, health, education, sexual health, young offenders, benefits, and debt.

In addition, we support a small group of young adults with moderate learning difficulties who require a high level of assistance. We provide these young people and their families with tailored support and activities that would otherwise be difficult for them to access.

## **UK VOLUNTEERS**

We had 13 UK volunteers during the financial year.

## Report to the trustees/members of

## First Steps New Forest

On accounts for the Extended Period: 5 April 2024 to 4 April 2025 Set out on on pages 3 to 4

Set out on on pages Respective responsibilities of trustees and examiner

The charity's trustees are responsible for the preperation of the accounts. The charity's trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year under section 43 (2) of the Charities Act 1993 (the 1993 Act) and that an examination is needed. It is my responsibility to: examine the accounts under section 43 of the 1993 Act,

to follow the procedures laid down in the general Directions given by the Charity Commission (under section 43 (7) (b) of the 1993 Act and to state whether particular matters have come to my attention

Basis of independent examiners statement

My examination was carried out in accordance with general Directions given by the Charity Commission. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently no opinion is given as to whether the accounts present a ‘true and fair’ view and the report is limited to those matters set out in the statement below.

Independent examiner's statement

In connection with my examination, no matter has come to my attention

1) which gives me resonable cause to believe that in, any material aspect, the requirements:

to keep accounting records in accordance with section 41 of the 1993 Act; and

to prepare accounts which accord with the accounting records and comply with the accounting requirements of the 1993 Act have not been met; or

2) to which, in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
