CHARITY ACTIVITIES
We are a small community-based charity that has been working for twenty years with people of Gypsy origin living in bricks and mortar in a rural area, disadvantaged by poverty and isolation. We have identified high levels of unemployment and major health problems in this Community.
Whilst working with this community and through local research we know that there is a high need for our project as the individuals that we work with regularly ask us for help with many day-to-day tasks. The majority of this community are unable to read or write and there is a high level of disability, unfortunately there is nowhere else for them to gain this help.
We also work closely with other agencies such as housing, education, police, Social Services, connexions and other voluntary sectors, which often rely on us in order to make contact with this community.
We spend considerable time advocating on behalf of this ethnic minority, always promoting their needs and cultural background.
By working closely within the community and advocating the needs of the people to other agencies we help improve the health and welfare of these individuals, also by offering a varied timetable to improve people’s opportunities and abilities to become more independent and skilled.
By working closely with the community, health, welfare, environmental, social, and educational needs will be met more effectively and efficiently.
We employ two part-time community care workers and have regular volunteers.
Our two Community Workers work on an individual basis with families and
individuals dealing with matters such as Housing, Health, Education, Sexual Health, Young Offenders, Benefits and Debt.
We also have a small group of young adults with a moderate Learning Difficulties. These young adults need a high level of support. We offer these young adults and their families help, support and activities that otherwise, they would find hard to engage.
UK VOLUNTEERS
We had 13 UK volunteers during the financial year.
