Trustees are typically attracted to our group after their child(ren) have joined our setting.

Fairlight Village Playgroup is a small charity based in the rural village of Fairlight in East Sussex. We have been an established group for approximately fifty years. Our Management Committee employs three qualified members of staff and we have one regular volunteer. One member of staff is the Manager, one a Deputy Manager and another a nursery practitioner.

Activities and Objectives:

We provide care and education for local children from two years to four years of age. We are registered with Ofsted for this purpose. We operate from Fairlight Village Hall and have the use of the adjoining garden which is next to St Peter's Church, with the consent of the Priest in Charge (Church of England).

We nurture each child who joins our group and value their uniqueness and individuality. We foster their self confidence and support them to think and behave with age appropriate independence. We help the children build upon what they already know and tune into their own interests. They achieve an understanding of number skills, communication and language, literacy, to be imaginative, creative and to be curious about the world around them, and to develop their physical skills.

We foster links with the local community and encourage individuals to visit us to share their knowledge and skills. For example this includes the Fairlight gardening club, the Priest in Charge, the PCSOs, the Community Outreach worker from the RSPCA and the librarian from the local library. We explore our local environment, visiting the woodland, playpark, church and library.

We do not have any debts.

The majority of our income is derived from the Early Years Educational Entitlement paid to us by East Sussex County Council. We charge fees for the younger children and this accounts for around a fifth of our income. We were awarded a grant from Fairlight Parish Council.

The biggest element of our expenditure is for payroll followed by rental and insurance costs.

This statement reflects the agreement of all trustees of Fairlight Village Playgroup.
