Trustees Report 2022 to 2023

The Trustees confirm the charity’s objectives meet the Public Benefit requirements of the Charities Act 2011.

The charity’s reserves policy is to maintain sufficient reserves to cover at least 3 months expenditure. The reserves are needed to meet the working capital requirements of the Charity and the Trustees are confident that at this level they would be able to continue the current activities of the Charity in the event of a delay or small reduction in the funding received.

The organisation is a registered Charity; the governing document is a Trust Deed dated 26 April 1993. The organisation is managed by the Trustees. The Trustees manage the Charity and its staff. The principal staff are appointed by the Trustees to manage the day to day operations of the Charity.

Trustees are appointed in accordance with the Trust Deed. One Trustees will retire by rotation, as required by the Trust Deed, at each annual general meeting, and if eligible, they can offer themselves for re-election. New Trustees will be selected from suitably qualified individuals in the industry, and will be appropriately trained and instructed by the existing Trustees.

Little Nippers continue to have a highly experienced team of Early Years Childcare Practitioners. All staff are qualified to Level 3 in Childcare and Education. We are an inclusive setting and welcome all children and their families. We consider children's interests and use the Early Years Foundation Stage to observe, assess and plan activities to support children's development. We work very closely with our Parents/Carers, we send home regular questionnaires, so we know how to improve our setting, we have regular parents’ evenings to discuss their child’s development and progress. We have an open-door policy so parents can see their child’s keyworker, whenever they wish.

We have continued to have a good parent partnership this year, we invited parent/carers into nursery, for a taster session during our Healthy Week for children’s planning. All parents feedback were good.

Children have developed well with the continued provision and constant update of learning resources. Children have enjoyed yet another fun filled year of seasonal events and activities, from Chinese New Year, Valentines Day, Easter, Halloween, Bonfire Night and Christmas.

We are continually finding ways to improve our new curriculum, with the EYFS changes last year. Staff have continued to update their mandatory training, attending other training to support their job roles.

Our garden area has continued to be a great asset, for children’s physical development, imagination with our improved roleplay areas, and also a great support for their wellbeing.

This year towards the end of the school year, we have had Fun Days, in the garden the children loved Water Play to a Mini sports day.

In 2024 we are looking into improving our roleplay area in the nursery, for the children, unfortunately we were rejected for Co-op Local Community Fund this time round.

INDEPENDENT EXAMINER’S REPORT TO THE TRUSTEES OF ROYSTON METHODIST PLAYGROUP

I report to the charity trustees on my examination of the accounts of the charity for the year ended 31 August 2023.

Responsibilities and basis of report

As the charity’s trustees you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 (‘the Act’).

I report in respect of my examination of the charity’s accounts carried out under section 145 of the Act and in carrying out my examination I have followed all the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act.

Independent Examiner’s Statement

I have completed my examination. I confirm that no material matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination giving me cause to believe that in any material respect:

1. accounting records were not kept in respect of the charity as required by section 130 of the Act; or

2. the accounts do not accord with those records.

I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
