ANNUAL REPORT FOR THE YEAR ENDING 31 JULY 2021

The Collis School Association is a registered charity, No. 1036853. Its address is c/o Collis Primary School, Fairfax Road, Teddington, Middlesex, TW11 9BS.

The charity committee members during the year to 31 July 2021 were:

Mr W Allen Chair (resigned March 2021) Mrs H Samuel Secretary (resigned March 2021) Ms R Smith Co-Treasurer Mrs C Wright Co-Treasurer Mrs S Ioannou Secretary (appointed March 2021)

Ms Smith and Mrs Wright acted as interim Co-Chairs from March 2021 until March 2022 when Mrs J Day and Mrs N Treacher were appointed Co-Chairs.

The Head Teacher, Kevin Hogston, is the ex-officio President of the Association and members of the teaching staff are ex-officio members of the committee.

The object of the charity is to advance the education of the pupils in Collis School. In furtherance of this objective the Association:

• Developed close and active links between staff, parents and children;

• Engaged in activities to support the school and advance the education of pupils; and

• Assisted in the provision of facilities and items for the education at the school (not provided from statutory funds) in consultation with the Governing body.

Typically a wide range of social and fundraising events are organised throughout the year. Due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, in person events were unable to be held for most of the academic year. The charity switched to virtual events where possible such as a virtual balloon race and virtual wine & cheese tastings. The year finished strongly with successful Bounceathon and Tokyo Olympics fundraising events. The total raised from events after expenditure for 2021 was £22,558 (2020: £25,458) (refer to detail on page 7). Events were able to be held in person for the first half of the previous year and so the prior year total includes Fireworks Night, Christmas Fair and Collis Rocks events that were unable to be held this year.

During the year donations totalling £23,383 (2020: £42,011) (refer to detail on page 8) were granted to the school to support various projects including:

• Laptops - £ 11,066

• • Audio Equipment - £ 5,325

An allowance of £6,333 (2020: £10,000) (refer to note on page 9) was given to the Head Teacher for use on miscellaneous items for the school.

The reduced level of income but also reduced expenses led to a surplus for the year of £7,553 (2020: deficit for year of £12,598). Collis School Association was left with a surplus carried forward of £45,168 as at 31 July 2021 (2020: £37,615).

The Association is dependent on the hard work, time and energy of the committee together with a continued high level of support from the teachers, governors and parents.

EVENTS

During the year, an amount of £22,558 (2020: £25,458) was raised for the school comprising income of £26,365 (2020: £42,784) and expenses of £3,807 (2020: £17,326). This amount arose from the following events:

1. ACCOUNTING POLICIES

1.1 Accounting Convention

The accounts are prepared under the historical cost convention.

• 1.2 Stocks

Stocks purchased for events are treated as an expense of that event when purchased.

2. STOCKS

No material amount of stock was held at year end.

3. AMOUNTS RECEIVABLE

Amounts receivable relate to income pledged for events during the fiscal year but received after year end.

4. CREDITORS

Creditors are made up of amounts payable to the school including donations and other third-party expenses accrued in the current fiscal year and paid after the year end.

5. TERMLY ALLOWANCE

An allowance of £6,333 (2020: £10,000) was given to the Head Teacher for use on miscellaneous items for the school.

Independent Examiner’s report to the Trustees of Collis School Association

I report on the accounts of the Trust for the year ended 31 July 2021, which are set out on pages 1 to 9.

Respective responsibilities of trustees and examiner

The charity’s trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts. The charity’s trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year (under section 43(2) of the Charities Act 1993 (the 1993 Act)) and that an independent examination is needed.

It is my responsibility to:

• Examine the accounts (under section 43(3)(a) of the 1993 Act);

• To follow the procedures laid down in the General Directions given by the Charity Commissioners (under section 43(7)(b) of the 1993 Act); and

• To state whether particular matters have come to my attention.

Basis of independent examiner’s report

My examination was carried out in accordance with the General Directions given by the Charity Commissioners. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts and seeking explanations from you as trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently I do not express an audit opinion on the view given by the accounts.

Independent examiner’s statement

In connection with my examination, no matter has come to my attention:

• (1) which gives me reasonable cause to believe that in any material respect the requirements

• to keep accounting records in accordance with section 41 of the 1993 Act; and

• to prepare accounts which accord with the accounting records and comply with the accounting requirements of the 1993 Act have not been met; or

(2) to which, in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
