Chairperson report September 2025

Hello and thank you for joining us this evening and showing your support for our wonderful Preschool. For those of you who don’t know me, my name is Rebecca Perrett, I’m a former Playgroup mum and I started my first year on the committee last year, taking over from Kat after 6 incredible years as Chairperson, 10 on the committee in total. Kat has been tremendously helpful to me this year as I transition into the role I know she’s held very dearly. Kat also took on the role as bookkeeper last year which has been fantastic, her head for numbers and her knowledge of the business aspects of pre-school are truly invaluable. Thank you Kat – I have incredibly big shoes to fill.

MENHENIOT PRE-SCHOOL – OFSTED URN: 102924 – CHARITIES COMMISSION #: 1036235

I also want to say a huge thank you to our committee members, some of whom will be leaving us this year as their children move on to school. I know you all have very busy lives and we want you to know we’re so appreciative that you give up your time to support Playgroup. Rich, we are so grateful for your role as treasurer for the past two years, we’ll certainly miss you. April, we’re so glad Louella has finally been able to join the setting and we can keep hold of you as our brilliant secretary for another couple of years. Joanna thank you for another great year, Matt and Sarah were new to the committee alongside me last year and we’re really glad you joined us. Thank you.

Kerrie, I almost don’t have enough words for. Kerrie has been a committee member for 10 years, she runs our Little Owls Baby and Toddler Group every week and she puts on our brilliant seasonal events. Last year, Kat quoted that since 2016, Playgroup had raised nearly £20,000 in fundraising - the majority of which was driven by Kerrie and her incredible efforts. The care and dedication you put in to everything you do for Playgroup is truly admirable. This year you’ve added another almost £1800 to that number and you should be so proud of yourself - because we’re so proud and lucky to have you.

So moving on to this year…As you may have noticed, I’m still using the words Playgroup and Preschool interchangeably. This year we took a big leap and re-branded ourselves

as a Pre-school. With the help of Michelle Green (one of our amazing former mums), we decided as a committee and with the support of the staff and community, that it was a more appropriate term for our setting moving forward. We really couldn’t have done that so smoothly without Michelle, we’re very proud of our new logo and branding, so a big thank you to you.

As usual, Playgroup represented in all the community events again this year from Village in Bloom to Cherry Fayre processions and we look forward to another year supporting our wonderful village. Likewise, our community supports us in return. As mentioned in my thanks to Kerrie, fundraising has been brilliant this year. £1780.37 in total. There is a more comprehensive breakdown enclosed but all the Christmas activities combined raised a total of £1181.30 (and that’s including the 50% we share with the school for the Christmas Raffle), the Halloween and Easter Discos raised £211.75 and the Coffee Shop was £207.88 - all well worth the effort from our staff, committee and fantastic parents and grandparents.

This year we started with low numbers of children, a pattern seen across too many settings as a result of a low birth rate year but after a round of advertising and a few new additions, we’ve finished the year in a really positive position. Hopefully this year, with our re-brand and increasing social media presence, we’ll be able to continue that into the next financial year so that Menheniot Pre-school can continue to provide its exceptional services for many more families for many more years to come.

I want to finish by saying a big thank you to our wonderful staff. Emma, Penny, Kyleigh, Sharon, Lizzie and Kerrie – you’re all brilliant. It was a particularly emotional year for me personally as a parent this year, navigating my daughters SEN and her transition into school and I honestly mean it when I say, I was grateful for every one of you - and I know every other parent will join me in saying that - whatever their circumstances. Your attention, commitment and care in your roles and for each individual child is nothing short of amazing and we’re very lucky to have you playing such a pivotal role in our children’s lives.

Thank you again for joining us tonight and we’re really looking forward to having you as part of our team.

Treasurers report - 29th September 2025

Our financial year runs alongside the school calendar so 1[st] September through 31[st] August. The starting balance for September 2024 was £64,174.18 in our Cooperative Bank account and finishing at £73,460.57.

Our accounts ending August 2025 are completed and we made a very healthy profit of £9,286.39, everyone should have a copy so please take a look. We have no outstanding financial commitments from the 24/25 year.

We are a charity so although we need to be financially secure and hold healthy reserves we are not profit making.

Income

Our income was £108,406.13 in comparison to £120,768.17 the previous year, this was due to starting with very low children numbers in September. This however did grow steadily and with the advertising we ended up with an almost full Pre-school by the summer term.

Our Little Owls baby & Toddler group ran for the year and brought in £11.21 after running costs, this includes a grant of £190 for the year from the Parish Council to cover the rental costs for the Old School room. It is fantastic that Little Owls can cover its costs.

We had another brilliant year for fundraising although not as high as previous years we still achieved £1,780.37 after costs please see your fundraising sheets for the breakdown. Rebecca will talk more about these events in her report.

Expenditure

MENHENIOT PRE-SCHOOL – OFSTED URN: 102924 – CHARITIES COMMISSION #: 1036235

Our largest expense is always our payroll costs, these were less than last year as we didn’t directly replace Anna and overall we did use less staff hours. We expect the staffing bill to be higher this year due to full running from the start and a further 4.3% minimum wage rise expected for 2025/26. We will find out in the coming months if our funding rate will be increased to match this!

A few things to comment on:

Training was hirer than previous years to cover Emmas SENCO level 3 course at £680.00

Advertising is higher this year as we did some! And also some of the rebranding costs.

Administration is higher as we split the ink costs our more accurately, we had a new domain reg for the new website at £120.

Insurance/Subscriptions - We have a lot more subscriptions now phone storage , apple music, asda delivery monthly fee these total about £250 per year. Then our insurance has gone up by £400 this is partly due to rises but also we have greater cover for staff now. The rest of the expenses were very comparable with the previous years.

We do start the year as expected with lower numbers but still healthy for September we will talk more on this at the committee meeting after the AGM.

Our 2024/25 accounts will be independently audited and filed with the charities commission by end June 2026.

The accounts ending August 2024 are available to see with the Annual Trustees Report on the Charities Commission website. htps://register-of-charites.charitycommission.gov.uk/

If anyone would like any further information on any figures please get in touch.
