The Executive Committee meets every two months (or more regularly as required for key decisions) and has a standing agenda that includes Financial Statement from the Treasurer, and update on group sections from the Group Scout Leader. All meetings have a formal agenda with Actions and Decisions, along with key discussion points documented. This includes all voting decisions. The Group executes activities as defined in the Scout Association Policy Organisation and Rules (POR) as available on the Scout Association website and updated as required. Trustee training is available from the Scout Association. ## **Sections** Squirrels - Monday Evening Mountain Beaver Colony – Wednesday Evening Python Cub Pack – Thursday Evening Discovery Scout Troop – Wednesday Evening Merlin Explorer Unit - Thursday Evening ## **Chair’s Update** Another challenging but successful year for the group. It’s really fantastic to see the group grow to over 120 young people, and open a new section for 4-6 year olds (Squirrels). It’s great to see the HQ busy every week with these sections back regularly face to face, after so long with disruption. The focus for the exec team has been on continuing to support the group, and this period has seen the new disabled ramp and defibrillator installed, and substantial funding for new camping equipment for a number of sections (including new tents that had their first outing at Cub camp!). Subs, combined with the rental of the HQ across the week really helps to ensure we can continue that support. As a growing group, we are still in need of more adult volunteers, so if you can spare even a small amount of time, then there is undoubtedly something you can contribute to help the group - just chat to any of the section leaders, myself or Lesley. Finally I would like to thank the leaders and assistants across all sections - their efforts are vital in making the group the success it is. Andrew Prescott, Chair ## **Group Scout Leader’s Update** The last year has seen the welcome return of proper face to face Scouting. Member numbers are back up and all sections are running at full capacity which is great to see. November saw the opening of our first ever Squirrels Drey ‘Blackbrook Squirrels’ and we were delighted to welcome the new Squirrels leaders Jess, Rosie, Sarah, Julie, Gemma and Young Leaders Jayne & Chloe. They are doing a great job. The 4 – 6 year olds are embracing Scouting and very smart they look in their bright red jumpers! One of our longest standing leaders Clive Searle retired this spring at the venerable age of 82 years – he’d notched up over 40 years of sterling service and he will be much missed by those of us who know him. The Explorers have been away camping a couple of times and Melissa Chorlton gained her Nights Away Permit – the Explorers Unit is proving very successful with member numbers continuing to grow. Rachel Butcher, assistant Explorer leader has now stepped down and we wish her well and are grateful for her service. Discovery Scouts are doing well and some of them are off to the New Forest next weekend on an Expedition Camp which will help them gain their Chief Scout Gold award. Pythons Cubs have just had their first camp in 2 years. We were at ‘Cricket Camp’ at Hamble River Country Park and had a splendid time. 29 Cubs attended and on the second day we had 14 Beavers come along and join us. We had the entire site to ourselves which was a treat. All the children did really well, especially as it was the first night under canvas for the majority of them. District Camp at Lyons Copse is coming up over the Jubilee long bank holiday weekend and we have already got lots of Young People signed up to attend. This year the theme is Star Wars and all the Sections will be dressing up, always good fun. We are really pleased to say that the disabled ramp at the hut is just being finished and the defibrillator has just been fitted to the outside of the gates. The defib is available to the general public as well as anyone using the hut and we thank Fareham Council for funding towards both the ramp and the defib. I’d like to finish this report by thanking the Young People for their enthusiasm, it makes it all worthwhile. Thank you to all the Parents / Guardians for your support and a massive thank you to the leadership team as without you all there would be no 1st Cat Scout Group.
