Klryston Upon Thames FesUY41 of th• Porformlry Arts Dance 5ertlon- 2022 Thls was the flrst tlme runnlng a festlval for both Emma and I, havlng attended festivals with our own dancln8 dau8hters for many years and also belng Involved In admlnlsterln8 our schoofs festlval entrles. We really strv88led firKlln8 a sultable venue, a5 the Dance sectlon's prevlous venue, Jublle& Hl8h. School, had increased their costs so dramatlcally, It was no longer a flnanclally vlable optlon. We contacted marry schools and theatres across the reg10 eventuallywldenln8our search and confirmln8 Gulldford County Sthool, whom were both a better cholce flnanclallv and also Incredlbly helpful and accommodating. Agaln, booklng an adjudicator proved dlfflcult, we eventually went back to our flrst cholce Jodle Clark (an experlenced All England and BIFF adjudicator) who wa5 only avallable for the first two weekends. but was happy to work with Anna aark (BIFF Adjudicator) whom She already had a close worklng relatlonshlp wlth. and covered the second two weekends. Both adjudic*ors were fantsstlG they gave clear. klnd and encouraglngfeedback to all our dancers. Belng Ilnked to Kahll Lewls Dance Company. a local school based in Dippenhall, Surrey, 8ave us an. enormous pool of approx, 80 volunteers, including First Aiders. and chaperones who were incredibly 8enerous wlth thelr tlme. The dance festlval rdn very well, unfortunately beln8 so early In the All En8land cycle, and also bein8 a non-qualifying year, we had a large number of no shLlWS, whlch affected our ttcket sales significantly. We received an enormous amount of posltlve feedbad( from dancers, parents and teachers wlth many commenting on what a friendly and Incluslve festl¥al we were. Whil¥( a success. we learnt a lot. For 2023 we need to flnd a larger venue wlth a better stage. We had to hlre a dance floor which needed to be lald and then tsken back up every weekend of the festlval and also purchase addftlonal Ilghtlng. Parkin8 was limited, partlcularly for dlsabled visitors. We also felt a change of datesto half term would make it easier to find a newvenue and help our volunteers. 25° Aprll 2024
