1st Eastleigh Scout Group

Trustees Annual Report for the year ended 31[st] March 2025

MAJOR ACTIVITIES AND ACHIEVEMENTS IN THE YEAR

Group Lead Volunteer

The Group has had a busy year with the Scout Association making changes to the organisation of all levels. This includes changes in the titles given to the Volunteers who run the sections.

The Group held the first week camp for several years. The Scouts and Cubs both enjoyed a full and varied programme of activities at Huish Woods in Somerset.

All sections had a good turnout at the St. Georges day parade.

A common problem in all sections is the lack of Adult Volunteers. We desperately need more Adults to assist in all sections, and the sections we are running are almost at capacity.

Scouts

Scouts had a good year that includes holding a number of camps. This includes the week camp at Huish Woods.

Troop meetings have been busy with hike evenings, climbing activities and even our sports day. Several leaders have given up their spare time to get trained in specialist activities so that we are able to run activities ourselves. This includes tomahawk instructor training and archery instructor training.

Cubs

Cubs have a brilliant team of leaders who are committed to delivering a good programme. Some cubs attended the group camp at Huish Woods and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

We have taken part in the District Remembrance Parade and the Christingle.

We have had visits to our Pack nights from representatives of the Police, Hampshire Search & Rescue, and Guide Dogs for the Blind Association.

Beavers

All of our Young Leaders have left with just three male Leaders. Despite this the section is very busy. There was a good turnout for the annual Hampshire Beaver trip to Paulton’s Park this year and the weather was good for a change.

Beavers enjoyed attending the Christingle service.

Squirrels

In September we started a Squirrel Drey. This is for young people aged 4 to 6. We started with seven Squirrels, two young leaders and two adult helpers.

Squirrels have proved to be very popular, and the section now has a waiting list.

Squirrels have had an active programme including visits from a Police Community Support Officer, Air Cadets and dogs for dog safety.

Other activities include making pancakes and chocolate nests; the Squirrels had to use their creative imaginations to build bird houses and create pictures from materials that were collected from the park. We also had some very messy and exciting experiments.
