Trustees Annual Report for the year ended 31[st] March 2023

## **MAJOR ACTIVITIES AND ACHIEVEMENTS IN THE YEAR**

## **GSL Report**

It has been a busy year with the merger of the Eastleigh Scout District with the Chandlers Ford District proving various challenges. One of the main challenges was to find a name for the new District. Various names were put to the youngsters in both Districts before the name of Arrow was selected.

The need for more uniformed leaders and non-uniformed supporters has continued to restrict the development of new sections.

John Elton has decided to step down as Chairman of the Group after over 12 years in this role. Executive Committee meetings will not be the same without John’s input, a presentation was made at our Executive Committee Meeting in January.

It was good to hold our annual Hog Roast this year which is our main fundraising event. It was well attended with a wide range of Group friends, parents, ex-parents and other supporters, along with sunshine ensured that the event was very successful and an enjoyable day. Many thanks to all those who supported the day. We have been fortunate to be given donations from Enterprise Holdings Foundation for camping equipment and BRC limited for upgrades to the WIFI system in the Headquarters.

## **Scouts**

The Troop have held a full programme of Troop meetings and held a weekend camp at the Buddens campsite in Dorset.

Five Scouts completed their expedition challenge hiking whilst carrying their own kit.

The Eastleigh boat club took another group of Scouts through the process of building their own model boats.

## **Cubs**

Three Chief Scout Silver awards have been presented and the Pack has taken part in District events, most recently the 6-a-side football tournament.

The Cubs also held a sleep over in the Headquarters with our Beaver colonies. Kayaking at Lakeside was very popular, as was an evening abseiling at Cricket Camp.

The cubs have used the soft archery several and our instructors introduced some to air rifle shooting on our range.

The Pack averages 22 cubs per week and would run more efficiently if we had another qualified uniformed leader.

## **Beaver - Thursday**

The Thursday Beavers have had some good trips this year including Poulton‘s Park and the Cranbury Park campsite.

The Colony is still going strong despite the credit crunch. We have also had a Kayaking trip at Lakeside. We have a new full-time leader, Simon Dumper.

We also had a lot of help with two young leaders from Scouts who were very good with the kids and the Leaders.

## **Beavers – Friday**

In addition to the regular meetings the Colony has undertaken a wide range of activities including Cycles4All at Pavilion on the Park, Kayaking at Lakeside and litter picking at the Leigh Road Recreation ground. They have enjoyed Kayaking at Lakeside, visits to Eastleigh Fire Station, the Southampton City Farm and the Cranbury Park Campsite.

The Colony has around 18 Beavers and a Leadership Team that has one Leader and four assistant Leaders.
