Annual Report to The Charity Commission

For the Rotary Club of Whitchurch

Reg Charity No 1035636

For the Period July 2021 – June 2022

Income

Father Christmas Collection £9200

Our major income generating activity continues to be the house to house street collections in Whitchurch and the surrounding villages with Father Christmas. The activity involves all the active members of The Club and others. It covers an 18 day period from 1[st] December.

Fundraising £2700

From time to time throughout the year, we will generate income from a fundraising event. Activities, including stewarding other organisations’ events raised most of the fundraising income

Gift Aid £3000

We have raised £2000 through the Gift Aid Small Donations Scheme from our Christmas Collection. Other Gift Aid claims on individual donations raised the balance.

Donations £1000

From time to time, individuals make us significant donations

Tree of Light £1500

Members of the public were invited to make small donations to remember loved ones on our Christmas Tree of Light.

Lifeline telephones £9100

Our Rotarians did sponsored walks to various Trig Points in Shropshire, calling it The Trig Point Challenge. They did this to raise money to replace our ageing fleet of Lifeline Telephones. See below

Tom Kelly MBE Walk £3500

One of our Rotarians, Tom Kelly MBE did a sponsored walk, raising money for the DePaul Nightstop Charity. See below

Outgoings

Family Support Grants £5200

Recognising the financial hardship being suffered by local families, money was distributed via ten local schools to provide anonymous help with school uniforms and other essentials.

Donations to other Charities £1500

Donations were made to a number of local charities, youth and service organisations

International Aid £3900

Our International Aid took the form of donations to a school in The Gambia where one of our Rotarians and his wife play an active, hands-on role in supporting it. This money was used to build a toilet block.

Local Community Services £7500

We dedicate ourselves to supporting local community groups, to alleviate hardship, or to provide memorable experiences to anyone in our local community who needs our support.

DePaul Nightstop Charity £4400

The DePaul Nightstop Charity is dedicated for taking young homeless people off the streets into a place of warmth and safety, and in helping them back into society and into work.

LifeLine Telephones £7800

We have a “fleet” of over 150 Lifeline Telephones, pendant operated and linked to a Helpline Call Centre to provide support to local elderly people living alone. Many of the older units are not compatible with modern FTTP internet based telephone services, and were replaced this year.

Youth £2350

Rotary runs its own Junior Leader development scheme called RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Awards). We paid for two local young people to attend a RYLA course
