District Commissioners Report.
2022, the year we were all fully back to normal again! Seems strange that we are still talking about covid and the recovery we have and still are making.
We can safely say Stockport Scouts came back with a bang! We had a growth of around 25% of young people which was great to see! We continued to see recruitment of adults however we did have a slight drop on census, this is something that’s top of our priority to work on.
We saw 24 young people and 12 adults start the journey to the World Scout Jamboree in Korea, seeing some great fundraising ideas and great bonds being made. As a district we were able to support all of them by making a small payment to help them along on the journey.
We held our first all-district camp at Linnet Clough celebrating the Platinum Jubilee. An amazing turn out of around 500 youth members and adults on top of that. We were lucky to have the weather on our side! A great weekend with some fantastic feedback from all.
The District Trustee board have been working hard behind the scenes to ensure we are staying legally complainant and the work going on with the sale of all outstanding buildings. Not an easy task.
We saw the sad loss of Queen Elizabeth, our patron of Scouts for so long. We held our own moments of remembrance between the district and our groups and made the new promise ‘To the King’
I would like to thank everyone involved in making 2022 a success. Thank you to everyone for the hard work and commitment you show to all our young people.
Phil Sumner District Commissioner
District Chairmans Report.
Dear All
As Chairman I am continuing to meet as many of you as I can throughout the year and Gareth and I plan to meet up with District Chairs to discuss moving forward.
A huge thank you to Gareth for taking on the role of District Lead Volunteer and I am sure he will receive full support from our teams.
We are now over most of the issues that Covid brought upon us and we have now moved forward and undertaken lots of successful events face to face.
We still have challenges to overcome in the daily routine of scouting but I am sure all the teams will do all they can to overcome any issues they may face.
Numbers are growing in all the sections which is really good news and we hope this continues.
The Squirrels are now settled in and making brilliant progress.
St Georges day this year took on a different format which was enjoyed by everyone with lots of activities scattered around the stadium.
A tremendous amount of work goes into the organising and delivery of all the events and a special thank you goes out from me to all sections and teams for the time given to local scouting and to our young people.
We are undertaking the changes from the National Scout Movement at present and hopefully all changes will be in place in the near future.
The unoccupied scout buildings are now being put up for sale and this is continuing along with legal services.
Finally a massive thanks to all who helped here in the UK and in Korea at the Jamboree to ensure our young people were kept safe.
Also the excellent communication that led to our young people not only being safe but able to enjoy the experience despite the issues thrust upon them.
Thank you to the members of the Trustee Board for all the hard work they have done this year with so many changes coming in.
A final thank you to Phil Sumner who has moved to County Lead Volunteer for the support he has given me since I joined as Chair of Stockport Scouts.
Here’s to success in your new role.
Linda Weekes-Holt Chair Stockport Scouts.
District Treasurers Report.
The Financial Operating Report and Statements are attached for year the year ending 31[st] December 2022 and have been independently examined by Paul Masters, ACMA and his report is attached.
We continue to prepare our accounts as in previous years on a Receipts and Payments basis, consolidating the activities carried out in the name of Stockport District Scout Council.
The majority of our Explorer Units have partnered up with their groups and I will hope to ensure the remaining Explorer Unit Accounts are represented in the District Accounts accordingly. Unfortunately, not all Explorer Accounts were made available in time and figures have remained at the last position they were recorded. These omissions are not considered material in the overall context of the position of the District.
In cash terms our funds are showing a £10,000 increase from last year, but this is due to the fundraising that has been achieved by our young people going to the World Scout Jamboree 2023.
As a Trustee Board we made the decision to help out all volunteers and participants going to the World Scout Jamboree 2023 and a donation was made to their journey.
I aim continue to improve the procedures implemented from the previous year’s accounts and will continue to do so on a year-on-year basis.
Mrs Jayne Talbot-Smith
Independent Auditors Report.
I have audited the accounts of Stockport District Scout Council for the year ended 31st December 2022. The District Treasurer provided comprehensive documentation and reconciliations for the financial year in question and in my opinion the accounts have been diligently prepared and give a true and fair view of the state of the organisation’s affairs and its financial position.
In order to maintain the standard of this year’s analysis of income and expenditure, the importance of ensuring that all members keep detailed records and receipts of all transactions, and ensuring all documents and records are sent to the District Treasurer in time for the Accounts to be prepared should be reiterated.
