Chairmans Report 10th November2Q23
Dear Life Members & Membèrs. Welcome to the 65th Annual General Meeting of Portreath Surf
Life Saving Club. The year has been a great year. an exciting one and a busy one with fantastic
turn outs to all clLtb activities and competition. notsble things for me this year include the use of
SPOND. the football match at the summer camp. the Branksome Chine week and the Nationals
Championships at Portreath. The year again started with the National Stillwater events 8nd then
got on to the beach and provided voluntary patrols during Ea*eT arKI the May holidays. The
season continued as normalwith qualifications and award tsaining take place. surf lifes8ving
activities taking place on the beach for all ages and a full program of local competitions,
national selection events and National Championships. I feelthat the use of SPOND has
increase(J participation at all training and events with everyone in the club knowingwhat was
golng on and wtten. The club continued totrain lifeguards and 8gain many club members wènt
on to paid employment with the RNLI. The weather was not kind for 811 three Cornish
Championships. the weather was not the best forthe Nipper. Youth & Masters National
Championships but again anothei great weeL creating many more National Champions and fun
m8mories. A big thank you to Fiona and all those who helped her with the amazing camp stte for
the Branksome week. The club then went on to claim its 18th consecutive National Title. with 8
great team made up of 811 ages from acfOSS the club with many famity members competing in
the same team and manyfriends joining us from Newzeaiand and Australia. what a tUFnout.
weather and surf at Portreath. We then had the European Lifesaving Championships 2023 in
Poland and Belgium with Annie Williams. Izzie Leigh. Psran Phillips and Charlie Haynes 811
selectod to represent the Great Britain L5fesavingTeam. Izzie. Piran and Charlie all becoming
European Champions and Annie also picking up medals in the Youth Championships. The club
had a small crew of masters at the European Masters Lifesawng Championships in Be￿.uM with
David Green. Matt Leigh and Sarah Anderson becoming European Champions and Katy Green
and Steve Eva picking up medals also. TovRrdsthe end of the season. the beach conditions
turned not so favourable and club members were Invol￿Ed in several rescues once the lifeguard
service had finished. This highlightingwhy club patrols in the busy periods when there is no
RNLI lifeguards on is an essential voluntary service ourciub provides. Personally. it's been
another great summer. TTry daughter has joined the club as a nipper and there is no better place
for herto makefriends. hangout atthe beach. enjoy a fantsstic sport and lifestyle. As a club we
must do whateverwe can to growthe club sothat as many people as possible can enjoy Surf
Life Saving.

George Haynes- C8ptsin$ Report
2023 has been a huge success for us at Portreath SLSC. We started the yearwith one of the
largest committees we have ever had at Portreath with many recognised faces coming the other
side of the fence and helping out. This committee w￿rktireleSsIY in running this club to its full
potential and as ever l am extremely proud and grateful of all the volunteersthat assist behind
the scen8S.
The year started. like most in the pool. There were briltiant opportunities where the club
completed 50m pooltr8ining in preparationfortheSLSGB Nationals. asthe workinthe pool

refreshers règarding lrfesaving and sportwhich we hope to continue moving fomard. we also
introduced the new SLSGB Safeguarding Guidance to all coaches which ttas helped coaches
knowledge within club environment.
Throughout the year. lots of our club members travelled around the world compettng in our
sport. There was a slice of Portreath in Newzealand. Australia. France. Belgium and Poland to
name a fewwhere our members ￿presented our little town beautrfully. More recently 4 of our
members represented th8 G8R Team at the European Championships. Annie Williams {youthl

Back in Britain, we sawfantastic support from Civits Store supplyingt-shirts for our nipper team
who went on to achieve brilliant things in the pool region811y and nationally and our Youth. Open
8nd Masters teams achieving plenty of medals and even a British Record for our youth relay
team of Harry Ward. Jowan Aiian. Finleyjeffery and Archie Wiles.
The Summer started to show its fac6 earty again which meant Club Patrols kicked off. we had
8reat numbers and enthusiastic members initially which was really good to see. I hope this
continues and Patrolling is even biggerand better next year. Our start of Summertraining camp
was once again extremely successful and plans have already started for next year. A new way of
communicatingarrived at the club. SPOND. Which has been a fantastic addition and I think you
will 811 agree. a much betterway of cornmunication.
Our club started to get some new. important appliances. A small glasswasher has helped us
serve clean gtssses and movements forthe all-irnportant Itft has started to progress forward. A
fresh. new swarm of pink Ladies approach our shore every Wednesday night- Ladies Night
which has been fantastic thisyear and W￿lCome(l a lot of new members into our club. A huge
thankyou must goto Rach Crabb and Fiona Myers in takingthis eveningto new highs!
The weather gods refused regional beach competitions this year unfortunately and did its best
to cause havoc butthe National competFttons were brilliant and once again Portreath SLSC put
themselves as one of Britain's tinest. Portreath hosted the biggest National Open
Championships everwhich ran STnoothly. and all volunteers were thanked fortheir hard v￿r
Portreath SLSC created history bywinningtheir 18" consecutive tiue with many irKlividual and

Treasurers Report 2023
l am pleased to present the Treasurer5 Re￿)rt for the financial year ended 30
th
September 2023.
As you will see from the first page. there is again a substantial net decrease over the
year in the club's bank balances of £12.012.97. with the dub ending the finanoal year
with £23,729.25 in the bank.
For a second year, the committee made the declslon that the financial priority would be
to complete the program of getting the dubhouse into a good state of repair as well as
replacing the lift and getting hot water and a glasswasher for the bar area. This has been
completed other than the installation of the Ilft, which has been ordered and paid for.
Portreath Improvements Committee have kindly paid half of the cost for vthich we are
very grateful.
We have 'earmarked' £10,000 of the £23.729.25 in the bank accounts remalnlng as a
reserve for repairs to the l)uilding etc. In addition, as at the end of the financial year, the
RNU owed the club £1.734.30 for their share of the dub s utility bills. This has now been
paid.
I would Just like to hlghllght a few as￿ of the accounts= Membership fees (which
Includes private equipment storage) is up 26% to £29,006.32 although this does, of
course. rnean a proportional increase Is also paid to SLSGB.
The club has been fortunate to receive several donatlons and a grant. totalling
£3,369.87 for which we a￿ very grdteful.
The funds received from hire of the clubhouse have decreased to £4,895, malnly due to
the RNLI paying for ty￿ yeats In the previous financial year and then paying late in
2023.
We have now carried out a rwdlew of the fees that are charged for the hlre of the
clubhouse to ensure that we are covering the increased costs involved.
The bar tskings Show £7.931.30, which is gjbstantially down on last year, however wlth
most customers paylng by card and Zettle only paying into the club's bank account at
the beginning of each month. Over £3.000 of takings from the Senior Nationals was
outstanding. If we add this to the takings. the figu￿ is £11,262.15 whittb COnfirn￿ that
the bar. again is making a substantial contribjtion to the dub.
There is no sundry income this year. The ar￿Unt for last year was for the insurance
claim for storm ￿paIrS to the building.
The club has reduced the amunt spent on new equitment over the year and
concentrated on repairing what we have. With reduced funds in the bank we are now in
a position to apply for grants for equipm￿ and grant applications have now been
submitted for this purkKJSe.
All of the brEakdowns rdating to the notes are on the last tm) pages and should be self
explanatory.
This concludes my re￿rt for the year 202212023.
