Chaimians Reportr. Welcome to the 64 Annual General Meeting of Portreath Surf Life Saving Club.
The year started with some winter ski paddlin& then National Stillwater Events and then got on to
the beach and provided voluntary patrols during the Easter and May holiday5. The season continued
as normal wrth qualifications and award training taking pla￿, surf life saving activitie5 taking pla
on the beach for all ages and a full programme of local competitions, national selection events and
Natlonal Championships. The club continued to train Life8uards and again a large number of club
members went on to paid employment with the RNU.
With a full events calendar in pla￿ the club was successful at the Cornish Championships, Nipper,
Youth and Masters National Championships, creating many more National Champions. The club then
went on to claim its Iyh consecutive Open National rrtle, with a great team made up of all age5 from
across the club with many family members competing in the same team and the Surfboat was back
in the Championships.
We then had the World Life5aving Championships 2022 ID Italy with Piran Phillips and Annie Williams
both selerted to represent the Great Britsin Lifesaving Teams. The dub sent a small team of masters
to the championships with David Green and Geor8e Haynes both becoming World Champions in
their age groups, Craig Salamone and Sarah Anderson claimin8 individual medals and the four of
them becomin8 World Champions in the relays.
l am personally buzzing that surf life saving competitrons are back up and runnin& iys a fantastic

Club Captsins Report October 2022
2022 was a big yearforsurf ilfe Saving in general.
A COVID free season saw Portreath run some winter paddling sessions at Swanpool Beach in
Falmouth that was always well represented. a thankyou 8oes out to David Green for towing the
trailer to these sessions. Our pool training stsrted at Redruth. where as a dub we took over Redruth
School pool - Monday nights by the Surf Squad. Tuesday nights the youth, Wednesday night5 the
masters and open and Friday our large nippergroup. AdubThankyou to all ourcoaches thatgave
up their time to help coach throughout the winter.
Portreath had great numbers at the Cornish Stillwater championships throughout the age5 and come
out Cornish Stillwater Champions in the Open. Mosters and Youth. Nippers finishing a respectable
6th.
This led us nicely onto the National Stillwaters competitions which saw Portreath on the road to
Wales and well represented. Our small Master5 team finished the pool season with a 4th in Britain.
Our even smaller open team finished in 7th and our youth a fantsstic 3rd place nationally.
Portreath ran patrols over the Easter holidays, a thank you goes to Danny Marsh for getting our
patrols back up and running. something the dub has missed for some time; we hope Tom Bolt
contlnues this very important role within our dub.
We then started our summer program with our 1st annual Spring Camp. All thorou8hly enjoyed and
special mention goes out to Piran Phillip5 for organising.
Thi5 season it seemed the ocean gods We￿ kind to U5 and allowed us to train without many if any
cancellations. Our club ran some 8reat sessions throughout the surnmer with the club being open 6
day5 a week with some moming and evenirE sessions available. We are very lucky to have so many
sessions available for members so a huge thanks to all our coaches over the Season.
Portreath hosted a lot of ￿gIonal events in the 2022 season with the Open, Masters, Youth and
Nippers all being contested in our cove. Portreath became the Open Cornish Champions and the
youth also won for the first time in sorne years with the Masters achieving 5th place. Our Nippers
finished 6th in a very competitive category.
We also saw some fantastic, fun ra￿5 in the twilight events ran by the Cornwall region with clubs
around Cornwall hosting.
Our nippers h05ted Hayle to an inter dub competition that looked brilliant and allowed'new to
racinl nippers compete against another club in a friendly environment
The GBR trial saw 2 athletesfrom vfsLSC successfully picked to rep￿sentthe country at the World
Champs in Italy. Annabelle Williams eamed herfirst GBR cap representing the Youth Team and Piran
Phillips also eamed his first GBR cap raang in the Open team.

The team hit the road for Nationals week at Brankwrne. A brilliandy organised event! A weekend of
pure sunshine saw a Masters competition in English waters ban wetsuits! Portreath. with a strong
team came away 3rd in the master& In the youth. 9th and the Nippers Ilth.
With the unfortunate passing of Her Majesty the Queen so dose to the British Open National
Championship it was decided by SLSGB to cancel day one and only compete day two. a huge shame
for our very large Open team of 47 where team events where not contested. The team still managed
to take away the overall a8gre8ate and become National open champions forthe 17th consecutive
year!
Our chalmian pushed and pushed and managed to eventually tske a team to the World
Championships in ltsly which saw some outstanding ￿suIts. Our small team of 3. David. Craig
Salamone and George Haynes rnanaged to achieve plenty of medals becoming world individual
champion5 plus Taplin, Ski relay and Board relay champs. Club member Sarah Anderson, racing team
events for Polzeath also came away with World medalsl As a club we were very proud to get
Portreath back on top at a World level and cannot wait forthe inter club championship in Belgitsm
next September, here we will hope to tske a stron8 Open and Masters team and eat plenty of
Belgium chocolate!
As we take October off for the coaches to recharge. the new season is on the horizon and there is
plenty more to look forward too. Winter paddling. Stillwatertrainin& New Yearfs Eve party, Pool
comps, Spring Camp. Summer sessions and competitions and a Sumrner Soual Tour. plus an
international European competition for the green army.
We would like to again thank all the help our parents. supporters and members Continually do when
h05ting events and at our training sessions BUT we must not rely on the same few and always
welcome any helpers that wish to a5SiSt and any the running of the club.
We've always been very lucky to have so many dedicated volunteers. I believe Portreath Surf Life
Saving Club is the premier club in Britain. this would not be possible without the help from all. I
would also like to thank all previous committee members who have stood down from our last
season's committee for all their hard work and look fonvard to working with some new. fresh faces
in the coming season. You'll all soon find out how David doesn't shut up.
Note: It has been great to be back to normal after COVID. our membership numbers are increasing
and we need more Level l and Level 2 Coaches, along with rnore Trainer/Assessors and Safety Cover
The Coaching ￿rtIfiCateS cost £80 for Level l and £130 for Level 2. once you have completed the 10
hours coaching to get the ￿rtificate the dub will ￿1Mbur5e your fee.
Courses are belng held in November at Portreath SLSC please ￿gIster on the SLSGB MIS.

Treasurers Report 2022
I am pleased to present the Treasurers Report for the financlal year ended 30
September 2022.
As you will see from the first page. there is a substantial net decrease over the year in
the dub's bank balances of £13,437.18 I￿th the club ending the financÈal year with
£35,742.22 in the bank.
It is difficult to compare 2020121 with the 2021122 accounts as the dub had received a
lot of help in the form of covid grants but as activities and use of the clubhouse was very
Ilmited the dub's expenses were much lower than nornial.
With the dub's bank balances being the highest they have been, the committee made
decision that most of the excess funds VKJuld be spent on getting the clubhouse into a
good state of ￿paIr. This indudes new dadding and repairs to the seaward elevation,
new boller5 and repair or replacement of the disabled lift. Also, earty in 2022 a section of
the roof was damaged by a storm although most of this repair was covered by an
Insurance claim. We are now a considerable way through this program of repalr, havlng
spent £26,389.55.
When thls work has been completed and the bank balances reduced, the club will then
be in a positlon to apply for any grants avallable for new equipment. Despite thls, over
£10,000 has been spent on necessary equipment as detailed on the final page.
The club has been fortunate to recelve several donations, totalllng £2,793.86 for whlch
we are very grateful and the funds received from hi￿ of the clubhouse has Increased to
£8,402.82.
On page 2 you will see a zero agalnst event hosting although the club has hosted events.
The cost and income from these events has, this year. been included under fundraising
as there has been so mudi overlap.
The RNLI is now completely up to date wlth vthat they owed the dub having paid alrnost
£5,000 in the year 2021122.
The bar is in a much stronger posltion agaln, havlng had to start from scratch agaln In
the prevlous year. The costs for 2021122 being £6,362.19 against takings of £12.282.64.
Fortunately, back In Aprll I had been able to fix the dub's electriaty unit price until 2025
so we are protected from the huge rises that other businesses are experiencing.
All of the breakdowns relating to the notes are on the last two page5 and should be self
explanatory.
Thls concludes my report ft)r the year 202112022.

Report to the Trnsteu of Portreath SISC for the Year Ended 30 September 2022.
Respective responsibilities of trustees and examiner
The charity's trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with
the Charities Act 2011 ("the ACV).
The charity's trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year under section 144 of
the Att and that an independent examination is needed.
It is my responsibility to:
. examine the accounts under settion 145 of the Charities Att,
. to follow the applicable Dlrections given by the Charity Commlssion (under sectlon
145(5)(b) of
the Act),. and
. to stste whether partlcular matters have corne to my attention
Basis of independent examinerfs statement
My examination was carried out in accordance with the General Directlons given by the Charlty
Commission. An examination indudes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity
and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also indudes consideration
of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeking explanations from the
trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the
eviden￿ that would be requlred in an audit, and consequently no opinion is given as to
whether the accounts present a 'true and falr vlew and the report is Ilmited to those matters
set out in the statement below.
Independent examlner's statemert
In connection with my examlnation. no material matters have corne to my attentFon whlch
glves me
cause to believe that in, any material respect:
. the accounting records were not kept in accordan￿ wlth settton 130 of the Charlttes Art. or
. the accounts did not accord with the accounting records," or
. the accounts did not comply with the applicable requirements conceming the form and
content of
accounts set out in the Charlties (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008 other than any
requirement that the accounts give a 'true and fair view which is not a matter considered
a5 part
of an independent examination.
I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the
examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper
understanding of the accounts to be reached.

If there is anyone who can help out with kit repairs, please speak to David.
Rack fees for privats kit are due by May and we need to set a new uiterion forstordge of private kit
