## Trustees Annual Report

Summary of our main achievements this year ...

We welcomed 29 new starters in September.

## SETTLING IN AND INITIAL OBSERVATIONS AND ASSESSMENTS.

- Our aim is to ensure that all staff promote a positive settling in process for all children attending, new starters AND those returning to Pre-School after the summer holidays.

- This year, we are only taking ‘Pre-School’ children as there are only very few 2.5yr olds this year.

- We made initial observations and assessments of the children according to certain areas. These observations involved parental input and observing children in each of the EYFS learning areas.

- We decided that the staff will take on a group of key children this year, for all their areas of learning and their pastoral care. We observed and made records of the Early Learning Goals that each child is already able to achieve, as an initial baseline assessment.

## THEME: Getting to know you.

## SEPTEMBER 2022.

This term Alicia started as our newly qualified staff and Rachel Meziani began as our new apprentice.

Unfortunately, Niki caught long covid in the summer, so she is only doing short days this term.

All children are still entering the building without a parent or carer, this proved to be very successful last year during the aftermath of the pandemic so we will definitely keep this going ..

So now the children are becoming experts at removing their coats and unpacking their bags just like they do in ‘big school.’

4

We are going down to the main school for our lunches then **PSE** spending as much time outside as possible. The weather is **Making Relationships** beautiful for September. **Self confidence Managing feelings & behaviour.**

## OCTOBER 2022.

## ALL ABOUT ME.

We took photos of each other and formed a Friendship Board; this helps the children recognise each other as well as remembering all their names.

We are enjoying phonics each day with Amanda Broughton from reception, this helps enormously with the children’s literacy with sounding letters, learning rhymes ready for their transition to the next stage.

Miss Cotterell has noticed that last year’s children are a little too far ahead and have advised us to hold our little ones back a little, when it comes to formation.

So, we have purchased a phonics program which Amanda is now implementing.

We discussed families and home life: Who lives in my house .. pets .. grandparents etc.

## AUTUMN.

We enjoyed autumn I spy outside and made autumn pictures, we asked the

children to look for signs of autumn at home and bring things in for the Autumn Table.

## DIWALI

We celebrated Diwali by making traditional sweets and listening to stories about the festival of light.

## OCTOBER HALF TERM

Alicia Small left us to go for a job at Holy Trinity school.

5

NOVEMBER 14th our new staff member Tess Broughton started full

time, she came to us from Small Steps Day Nursery and has made quite an impact already.

REMEMBRANCE We made poppies and explained why we remember those who lost their lives for us.

During this term we covered all areas of development but concentrated mostly on the 3 Prime areas which are: Personal Social & Emotional Development - Physical Development and Communication & Language.

CHRISTMAS - The children ‘ELF-ED THEMSELVES’ and we did lots of other crafts and decorations. Rachel and the children made a beautiful gingerbread house that attached to the playhouse, and they had a wonderful time playing in it!

We attempted name writing on the Christmas cards we made, and everyone got a present.

Parents were invited to come in for a mince pie and watch the children do their activities, which went down very well.

The Spanish sessions with Jo Carver have been a great hit, the children are learning very quickly.

IT We are using the computer for maths recognition and sorting. This is helping the children with control and hand eye co-ordination.

We recognised numbers to quantity 1 - 5 & 1-10. We used soft play to build and recognise shapes. We weighed measured the ingredients to make our own playdough following the recipe and we made ‘shape animals’ out of Triangles, circles, and squares.

**MOVING**

We worked on Stick Man attention and relaying what happens next during story time. Phonics have really come on; the children are beginning to sound out letters.

**& HANDLING** Health & self-care

## **C&L**

Full of Beans with Danny is still a huge hit, the children learn about their muscles with yoga poses and various routines and stretches.

**LISTENING & ATTENTION**

Understanding & speaking

Outdoor play takes place in the play area with climbing, spinning and lots of obstacles to explore. We also use the playing field after lunch.

Each morning, we have circle time, the children tell us any news they might have. We listen and ask questions. We enjoy our ‘Wakey Shakey’ song, and everyone joins in singing and dancing.

MAY 2023.

We began this term with Heathy Choices week, this incorporated mental health awareness.

We asked the children to design an ‘emotions’ face on a paper plate, and we had lots of ‘feeling happy’ ‘feeling angry’ ‘feeling excited’ 'feeling tired’ and one … ’feeling frustrated.’

## SUMMER TERM 2023

The term started with school visits on a Monday afternoon.

8

The children were very excited (and some a little apprehensive) to be shown around their new classroom and playground.

We talked about the changes in the seasons and the importance of sun cream, sun hats and keeping cool.

Circle time includes Makaton, Niki is doing a sign a week and the children are really enjoying it!

PHONICS Has really come on! We gave each child their own exercise book and pencil, and they started writing letters and 3 letter words with very good formation. Amanda is doing such a good job with these children they are so eager to learn.

We covered Father’s Day with a fingerprint painting and a questionnaire all about My Daddy, which the mums thought hilarious.

TUFF TRAY This term so far, we have introduced: GLOOP, COLOURED WATER, PAINTED RICE, MAKING PLAYDOUGH, PAINTED RICE and LENTILS this was covering volume and capacity, tipping and pouring … we had a very messy floor, but it was lots of fun.

CAFE VISITS On a Wednesday we started to visit the Link Cafe, when the children politely sit and chat at the table while having a drink and a piece of toast.

PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENT We have been spending lots of time outdoors this term, due to the hot weather we are going outside early and walking to the park when the ratio permits.

9

We use the junior playground to explore the apparatus: climbing, jumping and balancing.

We have discovered that most of our children are very keen on football! Girls and boys together have their team talk, they pass the ball, shoot at goal, and dribble up the pitch. They are really good, so we have purchased new goals to celebrate!!

We are having sports day and a leavers party for the children. At the party we have booked a bouncy castle, donkey rides and face painting.

Parents and carers are invited to join us for a picnic on the field to celebrate their children’s last few days in pre-school.
