Trustees Annual Report

Summary of our main achievements this year ...

We welcomed 26 new starters in September this year and with a brand new EYFS framework … so we were all learning together.

SETTLING IN AND INITIAL OBSERVATIONS AND ASSESSMENTS.

Our aim is to ensure that all staff promote a positive settling in process for all children attending, new starters AND those returning to Pre-School after the summer holidays.
We made initial observations and assessments of the children according to certain areas. These observations involved parental input and observing children in each of the EYFS learning areas according to their particular age range.
We decided that the staff will take on a group of key children this year, for all their areas of learning and their pastoral care. We observed, and made records of the Early Learning Goals that each child is already able to achieve, as an initial baseline assessment.

Age groups: SQUIRRELS 22-36Mths. OWLS 30-50Mths & 40-60Mths.

THEME: Getting to know you.

SEPTEMBER 2021.

This term we are still suffering the consequences of the pandemic restrictions and guidelines. We have worked very hard to make sure that the building is as safe as it can possibly be.

I have been in numerous discussions with Martin, the Centre manager regarding cleaning and the availability for us to stay behind after hours to clean and prepare the equipment and toys for the next day. He is trying to be accommodating.

We have had to implement new equipment like coat racks, water bottle holders etc .. We now ask that children bring in their own snack and drink to save us time in the kitchen preparing.

carer, surprisingly this has been very successful so wewill defnitely keep this going ..

Making Relationships Self defnitely keep this going .. confidence So now the children are becoming experts at removing Managing feelings & behaviour. their coats unpacking their bags and gel-ing their hands, just like they do in ‘big school’

We are now going back down to the main school for our lunches then spending as much time outside as possible. The weather is beautiful for September.

OCTOBER 2021.

ALL ABOUT ME.

We now enjoy phonics each day with Amanda Broughton from reception, this will help enormously with the children literacy with sounding letters, learning rhymes and forming the letters correctly ready for their transition to the next stage.

We are going to see how this progresses and will re-assess in January.

We discussed families and home life: Who lives in my house .. pets .. grandparents etc..

AUTUMN.

We enjoyed autumn I spy and made autumn pictures, followed by:

HALLOWEEN & BONFIRE NIGHT

We followed the Funny Bones story with songs and rhymes, using cotton buds for skeleton pictures.

DIWALI was celebrated by making Diyas out of clay and listened to

stories about the festival of light.

REMEMBRANCE We made poppies and explained why we remember those who lost their lives for us.

During this term we covered all areas of development, but concentrated mostly on the 3 Prime areas which are: Personal Social & Emotional Development - Physical Development and Communication & Language.

CHRISTMAS - The children ‘ELF-ED THEMSELVES’ and lots of other crafts and decorations.

The children acted out the story of Christmas with puppets and knitted toys, and we also learnt ‘We wish you a merry Christmas’ in Makaton sign language.

We attempted name writing on the Christmas cards we made.

The Spanish sessions with Jo Carver have been a great hit, the children are learning very quickly.

EAD EXPLORING & USING MEDIA & MATERIALS, BEING IMAGINATIVE.

iPad Time in small doses! Helping the children with control and hand eye co- ordination.

MATH S NUMBERS, We recognised numbers to quantity 1 - 10 and beyond. SPACE & SHAPE MEASURE

We used the soft play to build and recognise

shapes. We worked on dot-dot sheets up to number 1 - 20. We

weighed and measured the ingredients to make our own playdough following the recipe and we made

‘shape animals’ out of Triangles, circles and squares.

LIT

READING AND WRITING.

We worked on attention and relaying what happened next? During story time. Phonics have really come on, the children are now sounding out short words and beginning to read.

Our two new apprentices have now almost fnished their time with us, we have a vacancy for one only, so interviews will be done in February, we have had them with us for 12 months.

PHYS

MOVING & HANDLING Health & self care

Full of Beans with Danny is still a huge hit, the children learn about their muscles with yoga poses and various routines

and stretches. We discuss healthy eating, why we get hot and why we must drink plenty of water.

Outdoor play takes place on the play area with climbing spinning and lots of obstacles to explore.

We also use the playing feld every day after lunch.

LISTENING & ATTENTION Understanding & speaking

Each morning we have circle time, the children tell us any

news they might have. We listen and ask questions. We also

enjoy our ‘Wakey Shakey’ song, and we all join in singing and

dancing.

EASTER TERM 2022

MARCH - We said goodbye to Beth this month, but hello to Alicia who we have taken on permanently.

The fnal week was difficult due to lack of staff, but everyone helped and we got through!

MOTHERS DAY - We discussed all the things mummy does to help us and others. We made heart cards with fngerprints, we painted a picture of our mummies, we talked about how many people live in our house and drew our family.

We talked about going shopping, and we played the shopping game: trying to remember what was on the list!

Easter week - We played ‘What’s in the box?’ We did 2 MATH , egg hunts, one inside and one outside. S NUMBER S SHAPE SPACE & We estimated how many eggs in the basket. MEASUR E

We measured all the children on the height chart, then compared sizes using mathematical vocabulary.

We read stories about spring and easter.

We focused on garden wild life and introduced the Hungry Caterpillar.

We did a spring walk outside, and looked for all the things on PHYS our checklist and using wide vocabulary.

MOVING

& HANDLING Easter work sheets allowed us to practice our pencil control, Health & self care to help with phonics.

We used the play dough to design our own easter eggs.

EAD We decorated foam bunnies and talked about who we were EXPLORING & USING MEDIA & going to give them to. MATERIALS, BEING We made ‘cress heads’ and took them home to watch them IMAGINATIVE. grow.

SUMMER TERM 2022.

LISTENING & We had a great time celebrating the Queens Platinum ATTENTION Jubilee. We learnt some facts about the Queen, her favourite Understanding colour, how long she has been on the throne, her favourite & speaking pet etc ….

We made Union Jack bunting using fnger painting, we also painted paper plates and designed crowns and tiaras with stickers and jewels.

We learnt the names of some famous buildings that you fnd in London, played ‘I spy’ looking for them and then designed our own.

EAD We made red white and blue play dough, and made dog biscuits for the Queens dogs!

MATERIALS,BEING We dressed up in hats, shoes and scarves and had tea

IMAGINATIVE. parties with our friends. We made red and blue Jubilee cup cakes.

Morrisons supermarket asked us to make paper chains to display around the store during the Jubilee celebrations.

JUNE 22

We have started our transition into big school, we have been going down to the reception class and seeing where we are going to be in September and meet the teachers.

We have spent a lot of time outside playing, due to the weather being so good, we even tried to make cloud dough and played with the water outside.

We have been making smoothie lollies, the children have selected pictures of which fruit they would choose and they stuck them onto a recipe sheet.

We then made the lollies and put them in the freezer.

The week after we all brought in our Teddies and had a teddy bears picnic outside on the feld and enjoyed our home made lollies!!

We have played with the focus board this term, and dressed dollies in different types of school uniform and P.E kits.

PhonicTime … We are all now sitting beautifully and doing LIT speedy writing with Amanda. We know all our 26 letters READING and we are beginning to blend the sounds into words and AND WRITING. start to read.

As part of our ‘in the community’ work, we are taking the children into the ‘Link Cafe’ to join local residents for a drink and a piece of toast.

We are enjoying our last few weeks with this cohort, the children are now ready for their transition into big school.

We are having sports day and a leavers party for the children. At the party we have booked a bouncy castle, donkey rides and face painting. Parents and carers are invited to join us for a picnic on the feld to celebrate their children’s last few days in pre-school.
