## **Rotary Club of St.Helens Trust Fund Trustees’ Report for year ended 30th June 2022** Following the end of Covid lockdowns, and after more than 18 months of very limited fundraising activities, the Club was back with a bang at the annual Rainford Bonfire and Fireworks event. As St Helens Rotary Club was one of only a few organisations holding such events in 2021, we recorded our best result ever with a surplus of more than £11k! President Paul wasted no time in resurrecting established initiatives such as assisting with children’s reading at a local school, supporting the local Poppy Appeal, and, of course, relaunching Santa’s Sleigh, a very popular community favourite. In addition he instigated several litter picks along the historical Sankey Canal, and a number of innovative projects utilising the benefits of QR codes across the community. One of the projects involves an ongoing collaboration with St Helens Council in identifying up to twelve Heritage sites and providing quick and informative data through easily accessible QR codes at each site. Another very successful project has involved children colouring and messaging Rotary branded Christmas cards to local residents of a local care home, many of whom receive few, if any, greeting cards. A spin-off from this project has been to involve schoolchildren in completing other cards such as for Father’s Day, and including within the card a QR code which links to various men’s health and wellbeing sites e.g., prostate awareness. Another initiative will provide for similar messaging on Mother’s Day cards. The concept of utilising QR codes had already been established during Covid when Council volunteers and staff were faced with questions from attendees to vaccination centres about any information available on foodbanks and mental health issues; Rotary suggested producing a QR Code community poster which subsequently could be found across a variety of town centre locations such as the bus and railway stations. Sadly, at the end of 2021 the Club lost a former President to higher service. The first half of 2022 saw two more record-breaking fundraisers, the End Polio Now Indian Evening raising almost £2k, and, the Royal Birkdale Golf Day, raising more than £11k. Plans are in place in the second half of 2022 to hold a Dragon’s Den event to help distribute funds raised during 2021/22 Rotary year.
