Objectives and activities

Summary of the purposes of the charity set out in its governing document

To provide pre-school learning and development to a highly effective standard.

Summary of the main activities in relation to those purposes for the public benefit, in particular, the activities, projects or services identified in the accounts

To provide a pre-school learning experience for children aged 2 to 5, under the 'Early Years Foundation Stage' according to Ofsted. The pre-school provides an emotional and physical environment which enables all children to reach their potential. We are committed to working with families and children to provide the best care and education for all children within our charge.

The trustees consider that they have complied with their duties to have due regard to the public benefit guidance published by the Charity Commission.

Additional details of objectives and activities

The Pre-school, as a charity, is run and operated by a committee of volunteers, in conjunction with an employed staff of qualified care specialists. The committee is also supported by a paid administrator and a firm of accountants to manage payroll.

Achievements and performance

Summary of the main achievements of the charity, identifying the difference the charity’s work has made to the circumstances of its beneficiaries and any wider benefits to society as a whole.

During the past financial year, the pre-school has continued to work with the community of Escrick and surrounding villages to deliver a high quality childcare provision. We have continued to develop our facilities and resources to ensure the children have safe, enjoyable free flow play both indoors and outdoors throughout their day. Staff provide innovative and creative invitations to play within the setting whilst ensuring children's safety remains a top priority. We remain committed to providing the highest standards of individual care by ensuring excellent adult - child ratios. The preschool committee has organised a number of small fundraising events for preschool provisions. Our highly regarded preschool has run morning, afternoon and full day sessions throughout the academic year, caring for 2 to 5 year old children from the surrounding community.

Financial review

Review of the charity’s financial position at the end of the period

The pre-school made a surplus of £1,824 during this financial year. This was due to an increase in funded children as numbers picked up over the course of the year. Staff costs also increased in response to National Living Wage increases, which we aim to remain above for practitioner pay rates, whilst being mindful of our overall financial situation.
