The trustees present their report with the financial statements of the charity for the year ended 31 August 2022.
Principal activity
Friends of Kilmorie is a primary school Parent and Teachers' Association that organises various school events for social and fundraising purposes. Any surplus made is used to buy equipment and services for the school.

Structure, governance and management
The governing document of the charity is its constitution, as amended 16 October 2014 and the charity is constituted as an association.
Trustees are appointed by members of the association (comprising parents, guardians, carers of pupils and school staff) at the Annual General Meeting. Trustees can be co-opted at any time.

Objectives and activities
The Friends of Kilmorie (FOK) is a registered charity and the Parent and Teacher Association (PTA) for Kilmorie School. Its objective, as set out in its constitution, is to advance the education of pupils in the school, in particular by:

developing effective relationships between the staff, parents and others associated with the school;

engaging in activities or providing facilities or equipment which support the school and advance the education of the pupils.
FOK achieves its objectives by organising activities and events that help the school to build and maintain a strong relationship with its families and the wider local community, while raising funds to support the education and wellbeing of the pupils. This fundraising enables the association to contribute financially to experiences that reinforce pupils' learning and increase their cultural capital, as well as to purchase additional resources, facilities and equipment.
Achievements and performance (Chair's summary)
After the challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic, FOK’s fundraising activities largely returned to normal. The 2021-22 fundraising calendar got underway with a successful sponsored challenge, which involved 20 people running the Vitality Big Half as part of a community team to raise money for the school. The winter fair was once again held on school premises, albeit with most stalls and activities located outside. Other successful fundraising initiatives introduced during the pandemic were retained in the autumn term, including the creation and sale of Kilmorie tea towels, festive cards and Christmas trees.
Spring term saw the introduction of some new events - a sponsored challenge for Kilmorie pupils, a book drive for World Book Day and an Easter art competition, as well as regular gardening days for the school community. The success of the book drive led to a new initiative to create a library of pre-loved books within the school, led by parent volunteers with support from FOK.
FOK’s traditional quiz and curry night for parents returned, with catering provided by a wellknown local street food vendor, resulting in fantastic feedback from attendees. The garden party for the Early Phase also took place after being cancelled the previous year. FOK took the lead in organising this, with support from Early Years staff. It was once again a huge success with both existing Kilmorie families and those due to start at the school in September.
At the request of the headteacher, the school discos were moved from the spring to summer term. There were some challenges due to the very hot weather, but this did not impact on the children’s enjoyment. Finally, the academic year ended on a high with the most successful summer barbecue from a fundraising perspective to date.
In terms of donations to the school, FOK was able to contribute a significant amount of money to an ambitious project to transform the outside spaces for early years children. As in previous years, a sum of money per class was given to go towards school trips and each teacher was given an allowance to fund resources for their classroom. FOK supported the new pre-loved book initiative with the purchase of bookshelves and other equipment. FOK also purchased and installed 300 metres of commercial grade festoon lighting in the school playground. This has not only enhanced the appearance of the school but has made the playground and outside spaces more usable in the winter months, which has had significant benefit for Kilmorie’s wrap around care provision.

Financial review
The association generates most of its income from fundraising events and has minimal overheads. As this income stream is uncertain, the association avoids committing to expenses that cannot be covered by existing reserves. It is the policy of the association to maintain sufficient reserves to finance a typical year's programme of fundraising events.
Plans for the future: How we support the school
1. Financial support

FOK remains dedicated to fundraising to provide a range of benefits for the school, including ongoing financial support for school trips, classroom resources for class teachers, IT and other equipment and enhancements to the school’s outside areas. As well as the usual routes by which funding opportunities are identified, FOK is working with the school business manager to put in place a process for school staff to make funding requests for consideration by the trustees.

FOK will pursue further opportunities for corporate fundraising and donations, to supplement the existing estate agent sponsorship of the two main events. FOK is also keen to encourage the uptake of matched funding or similar schemes offered by employers.
2. Publicity and building our community

FOK will continue to organise events and activities that bring parents, carers and staff together, building on the already strong sense of community and celebrating the school. Both the trustees and the headteacher feel this to be as important as the fundraising opportunities such events provide.

FOK promotes its work and support for the school via regular updates in the headteacher’s weekly whole school newsletter, social media and FOK representatives in class WhatsApp groups. In addition, trustees network with parents at coffee mornings, open committee meetings and informally in the playground – building on FOK’s ethos of being inclusive and welcoming to all, including those families that are harder to reach.

The trustees confirm that to the best of their knowledge, there is no information relevant to the examination of which the independent examiner is unaware. The trustees also confirm that they have taken all the necessary steps to ensure that they themselves are aware of all relevant information and that this information has been communicated to the independent examiner.

Independent examiner’s report to the trustees of Friends of Kilmorie
For the year ended 31 August 2022
I report to the trustees on my examination of the accounts of Friends of Kilmorie ("the charity") for the period 1 September 2021 to 31 August 2022.
Responsibilities and basis of report
As the charity's trustees, you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 (“the Act”).
I report in respect of my examination of the charity's accounts carried out under section 145 of the 2011 Act and in carrying out my examination, I have followed all the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act.
Independent examiner's statement
I have completed my examination. I confirm that no material matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination which gives me cause to believe that in, any material respect:

the accounting records were not kept in accordance with section 130 of the Charities Act; or
-
the accounts did not accord with the accounting records; or
-
the accounts did not comply with the applicable requirements concerning the form and content of accounts set out in the Charities (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008 other than any requirement that the accounts give a ‘true and fair’ view which is not a matter considered as part of an independent examination.
I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
