The trustees present their report with the financial statements of the charity for the year ended 31 August 2021.
Principal activity
Friends of Kilmorie is a primary school Parent and Teachers' Association that organises various school events for social and fundraising purposes. Any surplus made is used to buy equipment and services for the school.

Structure, governance and management
The governing document of the charity is its constitution, as amended 1 6 October 2014 and the charity is constituted as an association.
Trustees are appointed by members of the association at the Annual General Meeting.
Objectives and activities
The Friends of Kilmorie is a Parent and Teacher Association as well as a registered charity for Kilmorie School, with the purpose of building and maintaining the invaluable community between the school and its families while raising funds to support the children's education.
Our main purpose as the Kilmorie PTA is to support and advance the education and wellbeing of pupils in the school by:

developing effective relationships between the staff, parents and others associated with the school

engaging in activities or providing facilities or equipment which support the school and advance the education of the pupils.
We achieve the above by helping the school to fund engaging experiences that support pupils' learning and increase their cultural capital; organising community activities and events to bring staff, parents and the wider community together; and funding the purchase of facilities and/or equipment to support the school and enhance pupil well being.
Annual community events like our Christmas and Summer Fairs are intended to act as a stepping stone for increased parent/carer engagement in school life. In 2020-21 we funded laptops, a classroom interactive touch screen and school trips. Educational provisions such as these give our children advancements they may not otherwise have received. Over the last few years, we have raised money to fund the conversion of an existing art room into a multi-purpose space that can also be used for science, an outdoor sensory reading room and playground enhancements. These projects are intended to contribute to a more rounded educational experience for the children and to help promote pupil health and wellbeing.
Achievements and performance (Chair's summary)
The Friends of Kilmorie reacted to the changing COVID-19 government guidelines during 2020-21 by adapting existing events and exploring new ways of fund raising. This included sales of Kilmorie art merchandise, sponsored challenges and socially distanced trails. Together, these modified and new events helped to bring the school community back together safely and enabled us to continue to raise funds for t he school.
There was recognition from parents and carers of the impact of COVID-19 on our fundraising. This led to both direct personal and company donations being made to the Friends, as well as individuals offering their skills to support and develop new initiatives. To ensure donations were maximised, the Friends of Kilmorie's gift aid status was reactivated and a Virgin Money Giving page set up. This helped to facilitate direct donations and support fundraising for specific projects and sponsorship challenges. The Friends also continued to promote 'Pay As You Shop' fundraising schemes among the school community and this has resulted in a small but growing stream of regular income from Easyfundraising and Amazon Smile.

The two biggest events in the fund raising calendar - the Christmas fair and summer barbecue - went ahead with modifications to ensure compliance with COVID-19 restrictions. The Christmas fair was re imagined as a socially distanced 'Elf Trail' in the streets around Kilmorie and while substantially smaller in scale, it was well received by Kilmorie families. By the time of the summer barbecue, restrictions had relaxed slightly and this enabled certain activities to take place on school grounds with others taking place in the surrounding area. Both events were accompanied by a raffle.
The main innovation over the course of the year was the introduction of socially distanced trails. These took place in the autumn half term to coincide with Halloween, at Christmas and to mark World Book Day in March. Trail maps were made available in return for a voluntary donation and feedback on these events was overwhelmingly positive. The Friends also received matched funding towards the autumn trail from the employer of a Kilmorie parent.
Unfortunately, it was not possible to run some of the more popular events in the fundraising calendar, including the Quiz and Curry night, school discos and Early Years Garden Party. It is hoped that these events will return during the 2021-22 school year.
Further details of our fundraising events are summarised in note 1 of the accounts. The surplus from these events was used to make donations to Kilmorie Primary School and the amounts donated are summarised in note 2 and 3 of the accounts.
Financial review
The association generates most of its income from fundraising events and has minimal overheads. As this income stream is uncertain, the association avoids committing to expenses that cannot be covered by existing reserves. It is the policy of the association to maintain sufficient reserves to finance a typical year's programme of fundraising events.
COVID-19 and effect on 2021-22
The Committee will continue to build on the tried and tested modified events that have enabled us to bring the Kilmorie school community together and raise funds for the school. To mitigate the risk of reduced activity and income, we will utilise and explore other methods of fundraising for the 2021-22 school year. These include crowd funding, grant funding, corporate donations and payroll giving, as well as hosting virtual events.
Other key aims include setting up a new online fundraising platform, exploring alternative estate agent sponsorship and continuing to raise awareness and uptake of alternative ways of donating. We also expect to support more sponsorship challenges aimed at raising money for specific projects.
Plans for the future
This financial year has seen change in the Senior Leadership Team at the school, with Liz Stone retiring as Headteacher and Kate Glasheen stepping in as Acting Headteacher. The Committee look forward to working with the new Headteacher as the school community is hopefully welcomed back on to the school premises. We will continue to support and help deliver the school's planned projects including the current focus on improving the outdoor spaces.

We will work together as a cohesive team that includes, parents, staff, children and the wider community.
How we support the school
Financial support
• We will find new ways to fund raise for a range of benefits for the school. These include ongoing support for school trips for every class (once virus control measures allow), for class activities and workshops, for the Kilmorie outside areas and for new equipment as reouired.
• We will continue with corporate fundraising (primarily Estate agent sponsorship of the two main events) as well as to pursue other opportunities such as matched funding.
Publicity and building our community
• We will coordinate events throughout the year to engage with the entire school community. These events will help build on our already strong sense of community, celebrate our wonderful school, and raise funds for projects such as those outlined above.
• We will continue to promote our work and support the school, with newsletters, emails, our lnstagram, Face book and Twitter pages, and by networking with parents at coffee mornings and evening meetings, building on our ethos of being inclusive to all and supportive of our school

The trustees confirm that to the best of their knowledge, there is no information relevant to the examination of which the independent examiner is unaware. The trustees also confirm that they have taken all the necessary steps to ensure that they themselves are aware of all relevant information and that this information has been communicated to the independent examiner.

Independent examiner's report to the trustees of Friends of Kilmorie
For the year ended 31 August 2021
I report to the trustees on my examination of the accounts of Friends of Kilmorie ("the charity") for the period l September 2020 to 31 August 2021.
Responsibilities and basis of report
As the charity's trustees, you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 ("the Act").
I report in respect of my examination of the charity's accounts carried out under section 145 of the 2011 Act and in carrying out my examination, I have followed all the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section l 45(5)(b) of the Act.
Independent examiner's statement
I have completed my examination. I confirm that no material matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination which gives me cause to believe that in, any material respect:

the accounting records were not kept in accordance with section l 30 of the Charities Act; or
-
the accounts did not accord with the accounting records; or
• the accounts did not comply with the applicable requirements concerning the form and content of accounts set out in the Charities (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008 other than any requirement that the accounts give a 'true and fair' view which is not a matter considered as part of an independent examination.
I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
