Chairman’s Report

The chairman welcomed Jon Killow, Lisa Wright, Neville Jarvis, and everyone else to the AGM.
-
Karl then introduced Marc Middleton. GSL.
Karl Tutt, Chairperson.
Group Scout Leaders Report
-
The GSL welcomed all the parents and the district team.
-
Marc introduced the board of trustees.
-
The group is going through a transformation period which is progressing slowly.
-
There has been a consistency of members going through the sections although the beaver section is a little low on numbers as five members have just moved up to cubs. Apart from that, the other sections are quite healthy in terms of the numbers of members.
-
Four new adult leaders have joined us since the last AGM, Ruth Woolley, assistant section leader, in the beaver’s colony, Catherine Cossey, an occasional helper, in the cub section, Alex Tutt and George Painz, assistant scout leaders with the troop.
-
Also, we have two young leaders, Flo Williment in the cubs and Millie Shorten in the beaver’s colony.
-
Joel Blanch, who is a young leader, has moved from the beaver’s section to the troop.
-
Nick Williment has stepped down from the scout leader role and has now become an assistant and Rebecca Blanch has become the scout leader of the troop.
-
It is great to see that several members are getting their top awards in their sections over the past year –
Beavers - Zachary, Wilfred, Albert, Phoenix and Issac. Cubs - Parker and Jack.
Troop - Thomas, Noah and Zoe.
-
Finally, A big thank you to our leadership team for giving up their spare time to come to their meetings each week to deliver an amazing program across all sections of the group.
-
Also, another big thank you to our board of trustees for their continued support and, of course, the parents for supporting us this year.
Marc Middleton, Group Scout Leader.

During the past year, we have had an average of twenty scouts at any one time, which is consistent with the previous year.

The troop has been working hard on their badges with five members achieving their Gold Awards. Four more scouts are on target to achieve their gold award in the next 6 months.
-
All bar one of our current scouts have at least one challenge badge awarded to them.
-
We enjoyed a weekend at Decoy in April.

From 1[st] July 2023 until present, the scouts have made us duly proud by achieving 308 badges.

-
Enjoyed a weekend at Decoy in April.
-
We were very thankful to have the support of an additional 2 young leaders last summer, as Lucy and Alex joined us for a short period.
-
George Painz has remained a steadfast, committed young leader with his input and work for the troop. George has grown in confidence and really stepped up and is now running meetings. He has recently turned 18 so we are in the process of recruiting him as an adult leader.
-
Joel Blanch also joined us in January 2024 as a young leader.
-
We are also grateful for the support of other section leaders who have supported us on our camps.
-
Ella Sistern and Ruth Woolley joined us for a day on our September camp to assist with the hike. Ella will also be delivering a craft activity at our forthcoming summer camp.
-
Colin Steward and Paula Grancourt will also be assisting us on summer camp for the whole week.
Our program has been youth lead. Our patrol leaders and the assistant patrol leaders have asked their patrol for their views on badge choices, activities, camp menus, and more.
We have had a wonderful year, which would not have been possible without the leaders who give up their time every Tuesday and at weekends to build skills and memories for our scouts. It is fair to say each leader has had things cropping up in their personal lives at times throughout the year and so we have had to be flexible, understanding and supportive, allowing each other to take time away as required. I am keen that 11[th] Norwich will continue to have a positive, family culture and look after each other so our volunteers do not get burnt out and end up deciding to leave us. I am so grateful to all the trustees who do so much behind the scenes to allow us to continue giving our scouts a fun and varied program. Thank you.
Here’s to another fun year ahead.
Rebecca Blanch 11[th] Norwich Sea Scouts Leader
