THE ARCHER TRUST
Notes to the financial statements
for the year ended 5 April 2024
l A¢coun¢ing pollcles
The Archer Trust is established by a cbarllable deed dated 25 January 1994 and is a registered
Charity.
(a) Basis of preparation and asSe￿￿ent of going wnc¢rn
Th¢ accounts have been prepared under the historical cost convention with items recogDis¢d at cost or
transaction value unless otherwise stated in the relevant notes to these accounts. The financial statemcnts
have been prepared in accordance with the
Statemenl of Recommended Pwtice: Accounting and Reporting by Charities preparing their acci)unts
in accordance with the Financial Reportiog Stsndard applicable in the UK and Republic of Irelalld (FRS
102) (as amended for accountiD8 peri(Kts conllllencing from l January 2016) and the Clwities Act 2011.
The trust constitutes a public benefit entity as defjned by FRS 102.
The tsijstees consider that there are DO material about the trust's ability to continue &8 a
going concern.
(b) tncome recognition
In¢om¢ is recognised once the ch2Tity 1$ entitled io IL there is sufficient certainty of receipt. and the
amount of income can be measured reliably. Donations are reeogDised when they have been
communicated in writing with notification of both the amount and the settlement date. Legacies are
recogDis¢d following the grdnt of probate when the executor OT admiillstrator of the estate has
communicated in writing both the amount and tbe settlemellt date. Interest of fimds held on deposit and
dividends are recognised vthen received.
(c) Expenditure ￿COgnItiOll
Liabilities are recognised as expenditure as soon as th¢re is a legal or constructive obligation committing
the clwity to that expendittir4 it is probable that settlement will be required and the amount of the
obligation can be measured reliably. All expenditure is accounted for on an aCc￿￿S basis. Grants
payable are clwged when the ttustees decide to make the grant. Costs of generating fund5 represent
inveslment management fees for the generdtion of income. Grants payable are payments made to third
parttes in the furth￿¢ of the objects of the charity.
(d) Fixed asset investhiellts
Fixed asset invesknents are initially rne&8ured at C05t Including transaction costs, and are subsequently
measured at fair value at each reporting date (based UE#)n closing mid-market value at the balance sbeet
date). Changes in fair value are recognised in the net incomeJ(expenditure) for the year. The main forni
of risk faced by the ch￿lty is that of volatility in equity markets and investment markets due to wider
economic conditions. the attitude of investors to investment rssk and cF￿ng¢S in sentiment concerning
cquilies and within particular Secto￿ or sub-sectors.
The trust does not acquire ILse put options, derivatives or i)ther complex financial instnlmetts.
(g) Income funds
UnrestTi¢ted funds are expendable at the di￿[¢110n of the trustees in the furthe[at￿e of the obj¢¢ls of the
dwity.
The tn￿ have decided that:
l. The generdl fimd receives the income from investtnents and pays thecharitable expenditure on grants
and governance costs.

THE ARCHER TRUST
2. The designated fund receives the income from th)nations including tsx on gift aided donations, pays
the inV￿tnI¢nI management costs, and benefits or suffers from investment gains and losses.
(h) Financial instruments
The charity has current financial assets and financial liabilities of a kind that qualify ￿ b&si¢ fmancial
instruments. Basic fitL3ncial iTrstnunents ate it]itiaily recognised at trdnsaction value and subsequently
measured at amortised cost.
Legacy Income and recei￿ble

£2,582,874 Iw been received. It is likely that one further, smaller distribution will be made. estimated in
