|||Girlguiding Kent Weald–Annual Report to 31 March 2022
Girlguiding Kent Weald is part of the larger organisation of
Girlguiding and seeks to provide quality training, advice and
support to its members. Girlguiding Kent Weald covers 190
units in eight Divisions and 20 Districts and has approximately
3,200 members at present. Numbers decreased during the
pandemic which follows a national pattern. The membership is
spread over a wide age range – from four years upwards, with
Rainbows, Brownies, Guides, Rangers, Young Leaders and adult
volunteers.
The work of supporting our members is carried out by the
County Executive, an Adventure Team and other lead
volunteers/teams on a voluntary basis. Travel and incidental
expenses are paid. We employ a part-time administrator for
approximately 5 hours a week. She is self-employed so has no
contract of employment and the charity does not have to
account for tax and national insurance. During the year, 8
Trustees received a total of £252
The County has Advisers in several areas including Outdoor
Activities, Leadership and Membership support and a volunteer
adult Training Team. Advisers and Trainers normally attend
trainings and meetings in their specialist areas so that they are
able to provide help and support when required. This year
these meetings have been a mixture of in person meetings and
via Zoom.
Members have voted to continue with a hybrid mix of in person
and Zoom meetings permanently in the future, particularly
meeting online during the winter months. This will continue to
have a positive impact on our overheads with a reduction in
travelling expenses claimed.
Covid has continued to cause disruption to our units during this
period with enhanced risk assessments and Covid protocols in
place, but most units have continued to meet regularly either in
their regular meeting place, in outside spaces or via Zoom.
**Programme opportunities for girls, young women**
**and volunteers**
Our annual programme continued to be disrupted by Covid and
the uncertainties around it when it came to long term planning
but we were able to ofer a Guide Sailing Day and Challenge
Invicta, an incident hike in the Sutton Valence area.|

## **Training**
Most training opportunities continued online in 2021-22 due to the pandemic but we were able to offer some of the mandatory sessions in person; A Safe Space and Girlguiding’s first aid training, First Response.
Girlguiding London and South East England Region have continued to offer a whole programme of A Safe Space and First Response trainings via Zoom, providing mandatory training when in person was not possible. Volunteers completing First Response required a short in person session with a trainer to demonstrate their understanding of the practical skills and these were provided locally in small groups.
New Leaders continued to be supported by volunteer mentors as they completed their Leadership Programme training.
Due to the much reduced in person training programme, units were not charged the County Training Levy in 2022.
## **International Events**
In previous years Guides, Rangers and Leaders have had an opportunity to gain International Guiding experience on Girlguiding London and South East England trips. Those selected are offered financial assistance.
No International trips took place during this time although planning has now resumed and there will be further opportunities via the Region in the future. Unit international trips which were postponed are now continuing their plans for later this year and next.

**Respective responsibilities of trustees and examiner**
The charity's trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts. The charity’s trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year under section 144 of the Charities Act 2011 (“the Charities Act”) and that an independent examination is needed. Where the charity’s gross income exceeded £250,000 I am qualified to undertake the examination by being a qualified Fellow of the Association of Charity Independent Examiners _._
## It is my responsibility to:
- examine the accounts under section 145 of the Charities Act,
- to follow the procedures laid down in the general Directions given by the Charity Commission (under section 145(5)(b) of the Charities Act, and
- to state whether particular matters have come to my attention.
**Basis of independent** My examination was carried out in accordance with general Directions given by the **examiner’s statement** Charity Commission. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeking explanations from the trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently no opinion is given as to whether the accounts present a ‘true and fair’ view and the report is limited to those matters set out in the statement below.
