## **3. Objectives and Activities** 

## **Charitable Objectives:** 

Porthtowan Surf Life Saving Club exists to promote water safety, deliver beach and ocean lifesaving training, and provide the local community—especially young people—with access to surf lifesaving sport and skills development. The Club operates in line with the principles of the Surf Life Saving Association of Great Britain (SLSGB). 

## **Public Benefit Statement:** 

The Trustees confirm that they have complied with the duty in section 4 of the Charities Act 2011 to have due regard to the public benefit guidance published by the Charity Commission. 

## **4. Achievements and Performance** 

## **Membership and Participation** 

During the reporting period, we maintained a healthy and active membership base across all age groups. Our **Nipper, Youth, and Senior sections** all saw strong engagement, with over **250 regular members** participating throughout the summer. 

## **Training and Qualifications** 

- Delivered over 4 **0 beach and water safety sessions** to Nippers and Juniors. 

- Hosted **multiple lifesaving qualifications** including **Surf Lifeguard, IRB and First Aid courses** certifying over **30 individuals** . 

- Increased the number of qualified volunteer coaches and water safety personnel, enhancing our ability to run safe, effective sessions. 

## **Events and Competitions** 

- Competed in **regional and national SLSGB competitions** , with our youth and senior teams performing strongly—bringing home **multiple podium finishes** . 

- Held a very successful **Club Championships** in September, showcasing the skills and development of all age groups. 



- Continued our annual **Fundraising activities** , attracting over 300 attendees and raising over **£3,000** towards equipment and training costs. 

## **Community and Outreach** 

- Delivered **ocean safety workshops** to local primary schools. 

- Participated in **village events** , helping to raise awareness about water safety and the importance of surf lifesaving. 

- Worked with local partners to provide **free taster sessions** to disadvantaged children, improving inclusivity. 

## **5. Financial Review** 

The Club remains in a stable financial position, with income generated through membership fees, fundraising events, sponsorship, and grant funding. 

- **Total income** : 36077 

- **Total expenditure** : 35191 

Main expenditure included: 

- Equipment purchases (rescue boards, wetsuits, radios) 

- Facility maintenance and storage improvements 

- Coach training and safeguarding certifications 

## **6. Reserves Policy** 

The Club maintains reserves to ensure financial stability and to meet unexpected costs. At year-end, our reserves were within the target range to cover at least three months of core operating costs. 

## **7. Plans for the Future** 

- Expand training provision and offer more sessions throughout the year, including off-season fitness and safety theory. 

- Invest in improved facilities and storage for boards and equipment. 

- Launch a **Volunteer Development Programme** to support the recruitment and retention of coaches and committee members. 

- Broaden outreach to involve more young people from diverse backgrounds in lifesaving sport and education. 

## **8. Structure, Governance, and Management** 

The Club is a registered charity run by an elected group of volunteer Trustees and Committee Members who meet regularly to manage operations. Trustees are elected at the Annual General 



Meeting and serve renewable terms.
