Treasurers Report 2022/2023

The accounts have been audited by John Wilson and on your behalf I thank him. They have been circulated to and agreed by the committee. We have followed the Charity Commission template for small charities (CC 16) - this states that a receipts and payments account, followed by a list of assets and liabilities is required.
At the end of my report last year I stated that the balance carried forward for 2021/2022 was £19510 which did not include Gift Aid, but included the cost of 400 Club prizes (£1300 to February 2023) and £6590.63 for Ireland (Deposits & Balances), the opening bank balance was £11620. This year the opening balance is £10538 of which £1375 is the cost of 400 Club prizes; the amount available to the choir at the start of this financial year is £9163. The bank balance over the year has decreased by £2457. Since I became treasurer (in 2020/2021) I have produced three sets of accounts, (5[th] April 2021, 2022, & 2023) the bank balance has fallen from £12059 to £9163.
The amount received this year from the HMRC regarding Gift Aid was £1162.00; this is down on the previous year due to less donations and members.
During the year we raised over £981 from busking, a further £6304 from Concerts and Care Homes, of which £1353 was donated to the Huddersfield Downs Society and £177 to Scapegoat Hill. The remaining monies (£669) were generous donations made from friends throughout the year.
The 400 club continues to provide valuable funds, thank you Geoff. The number of members has increased (still some numbers left, please encourage others to join, maybe partners?), the prize amount last year was increased and we envisaged the choir would benefit by up to £1600 a year, it was actually £1900. Contact Geoff if you know of anyone else who would like to join, (Choir members and partners only, unfortunately it cannot be extended to the wider community).
The committee are fully aware that expenditure will increase as the current economic climate continues to affect finances.
Whilst we currently have a fairly healthy bank balance it is imperative for the choir that we continue to think of new ways to generate finance.
The present subscription level is £100 and it is felt that any increase could impact heavily on members at a time of rapidly rising prices. Any change in the subscription level would need to be discussed and approved by the full committee at the next meeting.
To summarise, encourage new members to the choir, promote the 400 Club to partners or increase your numbers, (the more members the more prizes plus more for the choir). We actively ask for suggestions, maybe someone knows someone who might sponsor one of our professionals’ either at a concert or for a rehearsal?
