Chairman’s Report 2024
As we reflect on the passing of yet another year, it's remarkable to realise that we're already eagerly anticipating the summer ahead. The year 2023 brought us a mixed bag of fortunes, particularly with the unpredictable weather and surf conditions. Throughout the year, there has been a tremendous amount of hard work and dedication from everyone involved, and I extend my heartfelt thanks to each and every one of you. Your efforts and support are what truly shape Cornwall into the vibrant region it is today. However, it's been noticed that there has been a decline in club attendance at our meetings, which is a cause for concern as we value the input of all our clubs. Moving forward, we aim to engage more members to actively participate and extend support to our clubs wherever possible. We are actively seeking new members to join the executive committee to help share the workload and organize our competitions effectively.
I would like to express my gratitude to the safety teams and officials who work tirelessly to make our events a success. As mentioned earlier, there is a need to establish an Events Working Group to streamline event organisation. Given that the region's income heavily relies on sporting events, it's imperative that we explore additional grant funding to develop support packages for our clubs. Cornwall Region remains fully committed to supporting our Patrolling Clubs and encourages others to follow suit. The widespread adoption of the Patrol Captain award by many clubs is commendable and underscores our commitment to upholding core values while embracing new initiatives.
I am pleased to announce that Tom McRitchie has taken on the role of Regional IRB Officer, and efforts are underway to reignite club participation in our events. Any clubs interested in engaging with IRBs are encouraged to reach out to him for further information. Despite the challenges posed by heavy rainfall during the winter, our flood rescue team was deployed only once. The team has recruited new members and their training in underway. This was made possible, in part, due to a generous donation from Bude SLSC of new kit, which enabled us to equip our new members for waterside training. A special acknowledgment goes to John (Jock) Paton for his outstanding contributions as Unit Manager and his unwavering dedication to Cornwall's lifesaving operations.
Looking forward to 2024, which will be a long session due to 2024 Lifesaving World Championships at Kurrawa Beach, Gold Coast, Australia. I would like to wish every success to all the Club’s, competitor and officials attending.

Treasurer Report 2023
As you can see there has been a lot of expenditure mainly with the introduction of Live Heats for our beach events and a lot of the beach event equipment needed replacing or updating. I am sure everyone would agree that Live Heats worked well reducing paperwork and delivery of results, hope all members have safely kept their wristbands for reuse this year.
A big thankyou to Matt Sanwell for setting up the online entry system and to Rob Phillips for all his work with Live Heats to get it up and running.
OceanPerf is showing in the accounts as the Region took in the entries and Sponsorship money and then paid out the prize money to competitors and a fee to SLSGB for use of the competition equipment.
Swimming pool costs increased in 2023 and there is an increase again this year for the Stillwater.

Surf Life Saving Cornwall Sport Report 2023
Just three words rain, wind and surf.
These three things had a very big impact on this year’s regional championships and unfortunately we did not complete the programme for each of the events. Numbers were high and clubs had good representation at the events, well done to the host clubs and thank you to club officials and helpers.
Clubs hosted and ran twilights with high numbers of participation, these are great evenings for clubs to come together and have some fun. While encouraging people to have a go at racing.
We put a number of members through officials beach training and all had a go at different roles at competitions, it is important that the region keep producing officials. Without officials events will struggle to run. We also need to encourage more boat drivers and crews as this is one of the hardest jobs at the competition!
The region along with Wales took the lead in Live Heats and wow what a difference, and we haven’t looked back since.
Congratulations to the Cornish members who represented the region and GBR throughout the year either as competitors or team managers. With members coming home with European medals
Our numbers are increasing each year, which is great for the lifesaving and sport of the region. We are always looking for clubs to come forward and host these events.

Having organised some IRB training and assessments last year it has now been taken over by Tom Mcritchie the Regional IRB Officer. There has been no significant meetings or requirements to update the Region in the last year. The flood team and I continue to support the regional events with safety cover in Cornwall.
Flood Rescue Group
The team have been working closely with Devon & Cornwall Police for local flooding events and are continually on-call for most extreme weather conditions. We have been deployed by D&C Police using the SLSGB Office as a holding area close to the Search & Rescue Head Quarters.
The team has increased in size. We welcome the new members and would like to thank Bude SLSC for additional equipment provided by the club as a contribution to the regional Flood Team.
Nigel Bowden and myself have attended training events to continue to hold our Flood Training qualifications enabling local delivery of training and updating in any new practices.
