|Summary of the main<br>achievements of the charity,<br>identifying the difference the<br>charity’s work has made to<br>the circumstances of its<br>beneficiaries and any wider<br>benefits to society as a<br>whole.|Para 1.20|The preschool gained numbers during the<br>autumn and the start of the spring terms,<br>providing the children with an enjoyable<br>and rewarding setting in which to build<br>social relationship and learn through play.<br>At the AGM in October 2019, a number of<br>new members were elected on to the<br>Committee.<br>Unforeseen issues relating to the conduct<br>of the Manager at the time came to a head<br>in January 2020 when an Ofsted inspection<br>identified immediate actions required,<br>updating risk registers and risk<br>assessments, improvements to on-site<br>record-keeping, nominating a SENCo<br>coordinator, improvements to progress<br>tracking). The Deputy Manager selflessly<br>stepped into the Manager’s shoes at what<br>was a very difficult time and made<br>immediate improvements in the action<br>areas identified by Ofsted.<br>Tapestry was implemented in November<br>2019 – an online learning journey to track<br>children’s development and milestones,<br>which parents can view as well as<br>contribute to. Weekly updates are now<br>uploaded on to Tapestry for all children.<br>Unfortunately, during the second half of<br>2019/20 (late March – end of August), the<br>Preschool was forced to close due to Covid<br>lockdowns. However, the staff and<br>committee used the time to continue to<br>improve in areas highlighted by Ofsted and<br>plan for reopening in September 2020.|

## **Explanatory notes:** 

Key differences in income/expenditure between FY2018/19 and FY2019/20 were due to impacts of Covid 19, notably: 

## **Income** 

- Reduced parent income: low numbers in Autumn term 2019, and no parent income during Covid closures (March - August 2020) 

- Reduced fundraising - no opportunities for fundraising during Covid lockdown 

## **Expenditure** 

- Rent waived from April 2020 - August 2020 

- Reduced staff costs (of 3 regular employees (excl. bank staff) at time of Covid closure, 1 accepted redundancy, 1 resigned and 1 was retained on 80% pay (furlough equivalent) 

- General decrease in running costs in most categories associated with Covid closure (April - August 2021)
