HVT is a small charity with 5 unpaid trustees and no employees, set up to provide amenities for the villagers of Halstock. Its main income is from Halstock Village Shop Ltd (HVSL) whose profits are covenanted to the Village Trust. In 2021 HVT received £20000 from HVSL and it is likely to be £5000 this year plus interest on the loan of £59,500 which has been provided to HVSL. The Trust is the major shareholder in HVSL and thus has a controlling interest
Trustees are set at a maximum of 5 by the Trust Deed. Each year one trustee stands for re-election having asked if there are further nominations from the village. New trustees are elected by existing trustees.
The Trust is accountable to villagers and the Annual Village Meeting (Parish Meeting) is the opportunity to give their views; it is also the Trust AGM.
HVT usable reserve stands at a healthy £89000, mainly invested in CCLA investment and deposit accounts. Although little business was done during the pandemic, over the past 2 ½ years we have paid out over £6400, which has included:

Items on the horizon for the Trust for the next 12 months include
-
Village joiners leaflets, maybe verge tidying.
-
Help with any shop extension if decided on by HVSL and supported by villagers.
The Trustees seriously consider all requests for funding which must benefit the whole village, not just individuals. At the same time, they are mindful that funds may be required in the future for a large project such as a children’s’ playground or an extension to the shop or hall so a healthy reserve, which may increase in coming years, is a good thing.
