At the end of the financial year. we said goodbye to our District Lead Volunteer. Richard Deadove. following many years of dedicated seNice to Scouting in Newark. Following Richard's departure Nottinghamshire Scouts carried out an open recruitment process and appointed Heather Randall as Newark's District Lead Volunteer. Heather has kindly provided a report on activities in the district from I April 2024 to 31 March 2025. l am grateful for the work of the trustees who continue to supporL promote and safeguard this charity and its charitable objectives. District Lead Volunteer's Report Our last AGM was held around I year ago. and has been held later than usual this year. due to our new Treasurer needing to fully understand the work undertaken by their predecessors before producing the annual accounts for examination. The accounts remain healthy within the districL' however. I will work with trustees to look at how we can utilise some of these funds to further enhance our offering within the district. Over the last year there has been a change in DLV, and I would like to take this opportunity to fomally thank Richard Dearlove for his time and commitmenL Further recruitment has continued to be a challenging prospect. with numbers of volunteers reducing. We are currently looking for one Group Lead Volunteer IGLV), having just appointed a new GLV for Coddington and a number of individual sections have limited contingency if a volunteer is suddenly unavailable. The district currently consists of 7 Scout Groups with a total of: 2 Squirrel Dreys operational with plans to open further dreys over the coming years, 7 Beaver Colonies. 7 Cub Packs, 6 Scout Troops. 2 ESUS Moving forward. my team and l are focussed on supporting group and unit sustsinability and retention so that young people in Newark and surrounding areas can continue to develop Skills For Life. My main priorities continue to be adult recruitmenL full budgeting to be set for the districL and supporting the individual groups and their leadership teams. l am indebted to the very many hardworking and committed adult volunteers. young leaders and young people across our district who together. make Newark and District Scouts the very best it can be.
