Chairs report 2021/22

It was great to be able to get back to our usual fundraising activities last year after the COVID years and once again we were well supported by the school and parents in general. I think the only major hiccup was the cancellation of the Christmas fair, but thankfully we were already well on with the raffle (thanks Jen and siobhan) and people supported us generously through this.

It would also be impossible to talk about last year without talking about grants. The incredible support from the old school trust fund meant we were able to reach our fundraising target, which was an amazing achievement, especially after a couple of years when we didn’t raise as much as we would usually.

So we’re now so very pleased to be able to hand over £46,000 towards the cost of replacing the trim trail.

At this point I think it’s relevant to talk about grants generally. We were also granted £1,000 from Arnold Clarke and received money from Asda for the wellbeing programme. There are numerous other similar community funding schemes in existence and it would be great to target these more regularly going forward.

In terms of events, we stuck mainly with our tried and tested regulars. One addition was the wreath making, which was generally agreed to be an enjoyable community event, but not particularly successful when it came to raising money. This is a consideration for future planning, although I do think it is good to have some events for the benefit of the community rather than to simply fill the coffers.

Members wise, we’re delighted to have welcomed yet more new members and we look forward to working on new ideas and activities they may bring. A huge thanks to Claire tobin storer as she steps down as vice chair, and that also brings me onto my resignation.

I’m hugely proud of what we’ve achieved as a team. I can’t say it’s been a joy the whole time (cancelling the Christmas fair was a particularly low point!) but it’s definitely been an honour and a privilege to be a part of the PTA as my children have moved through the school.

Thank you all.
