## **Cromwell District Scout Council -Trustees Annual Report for the year ended 31[st] December 2020**
As most of you are aware John Nicoll stood down at the end of December after serving 10 years as our District Commissioner so on behalf of the District I would thank him and wish him well for the future
Where do I start 2020 has been a very difficult year for all of us
We have all been affected from the pandemic and has seen some of us shielding, working from home , home schooling, not seeing family and friends, not celebrating those special events, getting use to the virtual world with Zoom & Teams and being able to do very little face to face scouting
Despite this the Scouting spirit has prevailed and many of our leadership teams have shown great enterprise and devoting time and effort by adapting to online scouting via zoom producing suitable sessions for their young people
It is fair to say that to change from a face 2 face system to sitting in front of a screen to deliver scouting has been a daunting step for most. Not only were there the zoom protocols to master but as to how best deliver scouting virtually
Covid Risk assessments were another mammoth task our leadership teams had to deal with not only for the groups in producing the assessments but for the District in approving these. It is great to see that most groups now have developed these and the District get very few queries prior to these being approved
The Appointment Advisory Committee has worked well during the last 12 months and has adapted their processes to deal with virtual interviews
Although we had a loss of f2f scouting the Badge Secretary still had badge sales of £1,800 indicating that badge work did not stop and many youngsters achieved their goals during 2020
The Copley Maintenance Crew carried on with their site duties keeping to the rule of 6 and social distancing until the lockdowns preventing the weekly visits. It was very strange that Copley saw no camping last year however it has given the grass time to recover and the wildlife has enjoyed having the site to them selves
There was a dramatic loss on Copley receipts although The District were fortunate enough to be eligible for both a full rates refund and received a £10k grant from the Local Restrictions Support Grant from the Huntingdon District Council this being funded by the Government
The District saw a 19% drop in membership at the Census count at the beginning of 2021, with a loss of 71 Beavers, 63 Cubs, 15 Scouts, 13 Explorers & 47 Adults. However with the numbers on our waiting / joining list I am confident that once we return to face to face that the young people numbers will return. One of our tasks must now be on adult recruitment. It is worthy of a note that one group within our District did actually have a increase in both young people and adults so a well done to them
The District is a Trust established under its rules that are common to all Districts, and the Trustees are appointed in accordance with the Policy, Organisation & Rules of the Scout Association and The accounts have been drawn up on the receipts and payments basis that is consistent with the previous year and approved by the Trustees on the 17th February 2020 and signed on their behalf by the District Chair
