Objectives:

To support and advance the education of young people in agriculture, home crafts, country life and related subjects and in the interests of the social welfare of such members to provide and promote the provision of facilities for recreation and other leisure time activities. These facilities are those, which will improve their conditions of life, and will assist in the development of their spiritual and mental capacities, self-reliance, and individual responsibility so that they may grow to full maturity as individuals and members of the community.

Ofcer Annual Reports: County Chairman’s Report 2021-22

We started the new membership year off well by getting the clubs together for our monthly county events, one of the highlights being when we got all 4 clubs together to compete against one another in the public speaking competition playing ‘Just a minute’.

Taking over this year my only goal was get back to normal, I feel this is something that we have achieved. I felt this year we got back to the YFC way which is something that we have missed over the past two years. We had no disruptions due to a pandemic; we did everything we wanted to without anything getting in the way.

Without having the Cambridgeshire County Show again this year and due to the Queen’s Jubilee, we ran our first rally separately from the Show, for the first time in over 20 years. Yes it did come with a few teething issues, but it is something that we are going to look to iron out in 2022-23. We are in a period of rebuilding since coming up through the ranks, in Cambridgeshire fundraising hasn’t been amazing. So, this year we focused on new ideas that we could look to putting forward either for 2022-23 or make the events we have currently, more profitable. This year we held our County Ball again at Park Farm Thorney, thanks to Mr Michael Sly. Usually, this event is run with 200 people but obviously looking to maximise the potential of the event we opened up to 280 people our biggest ball to my knowledge in over 6 years. We raised over £3500 which was brilliant. I am looking to beat this for 202223.

At the end of the year, we had 125 members which was amazing compared to last year! Every club had a rise in new members coming in and there are also members that are keen to get involved. They come from all 4 clubs, Comberton, Soham, Newborough and Huntingdon. In September this membership year, March YFC reopened in September, which increases us back to 5 clubs in the County. The Club is in its early stages of reopening, so if anyone has any ideas or wishes to join the Club, please get in touch with Jess Shakeshaft at County Office, who can put you in the right direction.

To round off my report. I would like to thank Jess Shakeshaft, County Organiser, Judith Jacobs , County President, Beau Rollings and Tommy Campbell who were also part of my County Officer Team. They helped me guide the County to have a very successful year.

Annual Membership:

The Federation has supported an increased membership this year: 144 members, in addition to other young people across 4 Young Farmers’ Clubs.

The Annual Return of Membership to NFYFC as at 31[st] August 2022 detailed the following: A 2021/2022 year end County membership figure of:

144 with no Associate members totalling 144 across 4 Clubs.

= an approx. 62% Increase on 2020/2021 membership numbers, excluding Associates.

(Note: 2020/2021 - 89 members aged between 10 and 28 plus 0 associates: total 89)

Reserves Policy:

The Trustees have reviewed the performance of the Federation investments and they decided not to invest additional funds again to ensure that sufficient monies would be readily available to cover the annual County expenditure. The general reserves held by the charity were also reviewed and were considered to be appropriate to protect the current activities of the Federation and provide future short-term funding. The Reserves Policy of the Federation is reviewed annually.

Future Aims:

To retain and, where possible, expand upon existing membership numbers to ensure a minimum total membership aged 10 to 26, of 150 by the end of August 2023.

To carry on supporting and developing the five existing Clubs and facilitate increased member involvement in County Committee meetings, competitions, and events.

To continue with existing training opportunities and create new training opportunities for members, ensuring that each Club receives at least two NFYFC ‘Curve’ training module during the 2022/2023 membership year particularly as we now have 2 County Training Officers.

To encourage more members to organise fundraising activities for the Federation to reduce the reliance on income generated by the Cambridgeshire County Show and build on the Cambridgeshire Young Farmers Rally.

To keep raising the profile of Cambs FYFC within the wider ‘Young Farmer’ community, encouraging more membership involvement in Eastern Area and National Federation of YFC activities, including committee meetings, competitions, and training.

To further develop member participation in community/charity projects.
