**FOSMAS ANNUAL REPORT**

**2023 - 2024**

## **Welcome from FOSMAS**

W e hope you find this report informative and that it gives you a clear picture of what we’ve

achieved together. This past year has been a remarkably successful year for our school community. We were thrilled to see so many wonderful events come to life — from the Christmas and Summer Fairs, uniform sales, and coffee mornings. In addition, we ran two especially successful fundraising campaigns: the **Read-a-Thon** , which raised a record amount, and the **Fun Run** , which capped off the year with incredible enthusiasm and support.

Much of this success is thanks to **you** , our generous parent community. Your donations and participation make everything we do possible. We are also deeply grateful for the leadership of **Mr. Primrose** , the support of the **Governors, Mother Emma, Father Tim and Father Evan** , and the tireless dedication of the **teachers and staff** at SMAS.

Throughout the year, FOSMAS worked not only to provide tangible resources but also to support the school and children in more personal, community-driven ways. Events like the Christmas Fair in the church and the joyful Summer Fair brought families together and created lasting memories for the children.

We also hosted the **Parents’ Quiz Night** , launched the **Read-a-Thon** , supported with **Sports Day** and introduced new opportunities for families to connect and support one another. It has truly been a team effort, and we are so grateful for every volunteer, every donor, and every helping hand.

**A huge thank you** to all who have contributed — and continue to do so. None of this would be possible without your support. In the **Financials** section of this report, you’ll see exactly how much we raised and how those funds are being put to work in the school.

That said, there is always more to do. If you are already a regular donor, we thank you. If you’re not yet, we warmly encourage you to consider becoming one. Remember, FOSMAS is a **registered charity** , and **100% of donations go directly back into the school** . Through **Gift Aid** , your donation can be increased by 25%, and there may be personal tax benefits as well.

As this report is published, we are handing the baton to a **new team of enthusiastic, capable parents** . We are confident that FOSMAS will continue to thrive under their leadership, and we believe the future looks bright for our school community. We hope you find this report both uplifting and informative.

## **Charity Information**

## **Background and Objectives**

The Friends of St Mary Abbots School (FOSMAS) is a registered UK charity formally constituted in January 1994. It is governed by its Constitution, as amended, and adopted on 28[th] February 2022.

The main objective of this charity is to advance the education of pupils in St Mary Abbots School (SMAS) by:

1. Developing effective relationships between the staff, parents and others associated with the school.

2. Engaging in activities or providing facilities or equipment which support the school and advance the education of the pupils.

3. Support the Governing Body in the most efficient way and in accordance with the process set in our Constitution document.

The charity relies on a formally constituted Committee to pursue this objective. FOSMAS Committee administers the charity and meets at least quarterly with further meetings as required. All members of the Committee are trustees of the charity and have control of its property and funds.

FOSMAS’ trustees bring a variety of skills to the board including financial, communications, administration, and events and charity management. All Trustees are encouraged to keep up to date with the role and responsibility of a trustee. Nominations for election to the Committee may be made by any charity member with the consent of the nominee. The formal election process takes place at the AGM where decisions are taken by simple majority.

## **Trustees**

## **FOSMAS ANNUAL REPORT**

## **Activities**

As the school’s dedicated charity and Parents Teachers Association (PTA), FOSMAS plays a crucial role in organising activities and events to foster relations between the school’s staff, parents, pupils and Governors. A key part of FOSMAS’ role is to raise funds for educational materials and equipment for our children to have the best education and learning environment where to thrive. To achieve this, FOSMAS organises several events and activities throughout the year.

- **October 2023** - FOSMAS Parents Drinks,

- **December 2023** - FOSMAS Christmas Fair,

- **March 2024 –** FOSMAS AGM, Quiz Night, and Read-A-Thon,

- **May 2024 -** FOSMAS Spring Soiree,

- **June 2024 –** FOSMAS Fun Run,

- **July 2024 –** FOSMAS Summer Fair

**FOSMAS ANNUAL REPORT**

**2023 - 2024**

## **Annual Review**

This school year we have continued to work closely with the **Class Reps** to pass on FOSMAS news to all parents, with WhatsApp and emails to parents acting as additional reminders.

2023/24 was a challenging year for many families at the school with sustained years of inflation affecting families and school budgets. However, the effort, resilience, and love for our school and community made this year a real success in terms of fundraising. Thanks must go to **Mr Primrose** for

leading our school through these challenging times and supporting the children, parents, and staff.

Overall, FOSMAS raised c. £60K (net of costs) which represented a **n increase of over 92% versus the previous school year** . This is mostly explained by an increased fundraising from **events like the Read a Thon and the Fun Run** which were able to attract more attention.

As in previous years, Single & Regular Givers

represented the biggest source of income (29%). This highlights how crucial **your donations** are to FOSMAS and, ultimately, the school as they are the **most reliable funding source** . Thank you so much to all the families who made this possible. However, FOSMAS Expenses and Donations

**only 23 parents in our school**

**community were providing regular donations as of Aug 24** . This represents only 13.2% out of 174 children attending the school. This is not sustainable given the increase costs the school faces. Towards the end of the last school year, we had to witness what years of economic challenges have done to school

budgets with some of our loved activities and curriculum enhancements being cut. This decision taken by the School Governors was needed despite FOSMAS raising the money it had committed to the school. However, the £66,000 annual target FOSMAS raises for the school is essential to provide extra support, but it’s not enough when significant fixed costs like wages and pension face upward pressure. However, continuous support from the parent community is essential to help the school. FOSMAS’ donation to the school represented 93% of the total expenses and included our subscriptions to Read, Write Inc phonics resources and Singapore Maths.

However, given the increasing budget constraints faced by schools, our donations to the school are now a vital source of funding which is being used to pay for more than just curriculum upgrades.

## **Thank You and Farewells**

The end of the summer term saw a number of families leave the school. They have been major supporters of FOSMAS, and we thank them for their huge contribution to the school over the years.

We would like to thank all the **parents** and **school staff** who worked tirelessly this year promoting fundraising and donating generously to FOSMAS. Thank you to our **fund-matching champions** (including **Mircea** , **Ioana, and Cuan** ) and our beloved **FOSMAS team** , these groups of parents have been especially involved and have consistently supported the school. A very special thank you goes to our **Class Reps** , **and Gergana Panderova,** a school mother who kindly assisted in the auditing of our annual accounts.

Thank you to **all our volunteers** who provided endless support and made sure that everything ran smoothly at the events. Finally, we would like to thank **Mr Primrose,** the **School Governors, Mother Emma,** and the **PCC** of **St Mary Abbots Church** for all their help and support throughout the past year.
