IndNidual children's views are velued and acted upon. Our planning of actP4itiés reflect the children's ages and stages ot development. Through play we provide opportunities for children to experience leaming. While playin& children develop in lots of ways. such as personally. socially. and emotionally. by leamingthrough playin& interacting. and communicating with their peers, they learn respect to share and to take tums. During sessions they also learn to count and recognise numbers, recognise and write their names, develop their confidence and independence and many other skn'lLs needed as a foundation for theirfuture learning and development. We are pleased lo report the nursery is currentty fully booked with only a few spaces left for the new academic year. Harvey Bears 1$ run by our committee. led this year by Lou Bryanl. along with 7 other trustees. Day to day operations are expertly managed by Sue Jones. and supported by Judith as Deputy Manager, and Ryan. as Designated Safeguarding Lead, tsking charge if neither Sue or Judith are in the setting for whatever rea80n. The committee have faced so challenges this year. dueto delays in Ofsted's processingtimes of the relevant Paperwork, but this has all now been successfuuy resolved. We are still actively recruiting more volunteer committee members, in the hopes that some will take on ihe roles for people who are due to Step down. Currently there are 13 members of staff and 1 bank stsff member. As part of our current stsffing levels. we have employed a dinner lady. Stef. who comes into the setting to assist with children's lunchtimes. This has helped to ensure the staff get lime to have their lunches too. This has made a big difference to the smooth running of the busy lunchtime period. Cynthia returned to work in September following a period of long-teTm sick leave due to an injury. Unfortunately. she has recently had another injury and is currenlly signed off. Jennie is currently on Maternrty leave and is conts"nuing her level 3 course to update her qualification. We now have five st8ff qualified at level 6 or above and five staff who hold a level 2 or 3 certificate. Four staff are currently training or about to bewn training or apprenticeships to an early-year8 qualification. This will mean all staff will be qualified practitioners. Ryan has now completed the CohortTr8iningthat Sue and Judith did Last year. making 3 of our staff having now completed it. The training was centred around Communication and Language. Mathematics. and Personal. Social and Emotional Development. Emma continues lo volunteer on Wednesdays and Christopher joined us on a student piacem6nt st October and was in Setting on Mond8ys and Wedr*sdays until May. Beua joined us on Vrk experience in July.

As a pack-away setting it can tske quite a longtime to change an empty hall into the Nursery setting. and all equipmentneedingto betidied away intothe cupboard which tskes special packin& The village hall committee have supported us overthe past years by auowing us to leave some items in the conservatory so we don't have to puteverything aYy every rtitht Judith has updated 81lthe p0CleS this year in accordance V*ith the updated regulations from Ofsted 8nd within the EYFS- this isa tremendous am0untofvlk mostofwhich Judith did in herown time. Helping to keep children safe has always been our main objective either outside or within the setting. Ensuringthat the door security is observed at all times. only certain staff members openingthe door to18t someone in or out to ensure the door is always secure. Perents are advised to ask a staff member to let them out as the door does not lock behind them and needs to be locked manually. helping to keep all children sale, We 81ways enjoy chatting with parents in the moming about how children have slept, etc. and the chat at the end of the session about what children have been doin& we enjoy getting to know them as well as their children and building on our parenl-partnership. This year, Amand8 took over leadingourvisits to Forest School supported by Angela. Forest school offers great outdoor learning eXperiee for the children in the grounds of HaNingÈon First School. We are still able to go out tor walks around the lovelyvillage of Harvington. While we are out, we teach children to be safe near the road and to look and bsten when they cross the r08ds. We continued with the garden project again this year, it18 8n amazing opportunity for the children to learn about growing their own foods. An elderly couple in Harvington were finding il difficult lo tend their garden an(1 offered part of it to the children of Hapiey Bears. On our tirst visit to the garden this year, 6 children had a great time planting beans. potaloes. tomatoes, strawberries and much more. The children have recently started going to the Mobile Library, it comes once a month on a Friday and a sm811 group of children are tBken to choose books for us to share and enjoy. Different children going each time to ensure they all get a turn to experience the love of books. The stsff have many speciaLi8ed areas of expertise such as cookin& crafts. $crte. 0Up physical activits'es, Otc. All actimties we pr¢)vide are free choice lorthe children who enjoy taking paiL some children need mora encouragement that other8 but no one is forced to do an acts'vity. Staff complete end of year assessments for their key-children and parents were given the opportunityto come into the settingto discu35 their child's development. Children's assessments are uploaded into their Famly profile. Last Christmas. we took the children to Ellenden Farm again to see Father Christmas in his grotto. We are always made welcome at Ellenden whenever go and they reseThed a time slotjust for us which we appreciated very much. The children walked across the fields to Ellenden Farm and back to the setting, a tremendous effort as it is quite a long way for ttle legs. a couple of parents were also able to join us which was lovely. The children perfomed songs during our annual Christmas party and as usual the children were amazing. Most children's parents were able to join us for the perfom)ance and stsyed for coffee and a mince pie.
After the performance the children enjoyed lunch of chicken nuggets and chips provided for us by the Golden Cross, thankyoutothem. We enjoyed some patty games after lunch before a Jolly gentleman popped in to see the children and brought them all presents. At the end of the springterm. we organised our usual Egg-strav8ganza %*ryth Easter bonnet parade and raffle, thank you to everyonewho contributed to the raffle. either by buying tickets or donating an item to be raffled. The children made bonnets at home and thejudge had a hard choiceforthewinner.The rmney raised in the raffle will be used for the children's'End of Year Party, in July. The staff also org8nised fun-filled acts'vities to celebrate VE day. The academic year 2024-2025 ended with our usual Sports Day and picnic. most of the children were present and most of their parents were able to join us and enjoy a different kind of sports and picnics. As the weatherwas not kind, we needed togofor plan B and had vanous games in the halL Thiswentwell and a good time was had by all who attended. This was followed by the end of year party. there were some emotional"Goodbyes" to the children who wefe leaving us for'Big school. and on the next step ot their education. We wished them all best wishes and hoped they would enjoy their new adventures. We are pleased to report ihat we're in a stable and healthy posits'on financially. Most of our income this yèar came from preschool fees. and government nursery fundin& which continue to be our biggest source of funding. We've also received some very welcome donations, and we had several successful fundraising activities. We have had some more Rags2riches collections this year helping people to recycle their unwanted items of clothing. which arethen sent to people who can use them and raised some funds for Harvey Bears. We have also received a grant from the Perkins Trust. which we are using to purchase some 811-weather parasols with stands and weights to make them safe for the children to play under, some items for the mud kilchen. etc. to improve our outdoor learningenvironment, thank you to them. We received a lovely donation from Pondarosa. the home of some ofour children. The children from Pondarosa were asked what they would knke us to buy with the money and they requested. some Paw P8trol items. a Pram. a Disco Ball and°music to darte to." we giso boughta wireless8peaker. Our biggest expenditures were salaries arKI essenti81 runningcosts. such as renL and cl8s8room supplies. We've kept a Close eye on our budget throughout the year to make sure we're spending responsibly and in line with our goals. Finally. I would like to thank the cuffent committee members for all your help and SUppt. And to staff for their hard work. There is much work done behind the scenes. work done out of session, which helps ensure Harvey Bears can run smoothly and continue to offerthe opportunities and experiences that it does.
