Managers Report – AGM 10[th] October 2025

School year 2024/2025

For those of you who haven't been to an AGM before, I'll just explain why we need to hold them. As a charity with a constitution, (copies available) we are run by a committee of volunteers, usually parents and interested people. The committee are the pre-school employers, who employ the staff to run the pre-school, toddlers and administration. We are grateful to the Baptist Church for allowing us to use their premises, we certainly have grown since from our small beginnings from 2 mornings a week for 2.5 hrs, to almost a full week of 8 hrs a day!

This report relates to the school year from Sept 24 – July 25, starting the year with 40 children and ending with 54 with 25 children leaving for school, 1 to nursery and 5 moving away.

We held our Nativity play in the church followed by our Christmas Fayre, raising £457.25 from the Fayre, mystery bags, photos & sponsored dressing up days. Our Easter Fayre and sponsored Bonnet parade raised £609.00

From November 2024 we had the pleasure of taking some of the older children to visit the residents of Highwood Care Home on Abbotsham Road and participate in craft activities, playing in their toy & sensory rooms, finishing the year with a sports morning in their outside area-great fun was had by all.

Staff are continuing to update their training – first aid or child protection are compulsory – but they also undertook other relevant training such as engaging parents, speech & language courses and 6 staff members completed a Professional Development Programme to enhance their knowledge. At the end of term we were sad to say goodbye to Judith who had worked at the pre-school since 1993, but in 2012 took on the role as Toddler Group Coordinator & helped with pre-school lunches.

Pre-school lunches are continuing to go well – we did sadly have to increase the price to £1.50 and also raise the price of the sweatshirts to £8.50 & t-shirts to £4.50.

We continue to use the toothbrushing scheme with our older children – as recommended by the NHS team – it is going well and most children will participate.

Most of the funding for pre-school comes from Devon County Council in the way of funding for 2 yr olds + 3-4 year olds – however fundraising is still a vital part in helping us stay afloat – as the funding from the government does not help with the increase to annual rise in the minimum wage & also this year the rise in National Insurance Contributions! As we move into the next school year – numbers are looking very low & we will need to look at how we budget for wages etc (so any fundraising ideas would be greatly appreciated) Copies of the accounts are on your seats – if anyone has any questions regarding these please ask.

Without your continued support the pre-school would not be able to run and continue to serve the local community as it has done for the past 43 years. We will be looking for parents willing to join the committee – giving as little or as much of their time as they are able

Finally on behalf of myself & the staff I would like to thank the current committee for their support over the past year and look forward to working with some of them again, along with any new committee members.
