## **Achievements and Performance**

|Summary of the<br>main achievements<br>of the charity,<br>identifying the<br>difference the<br>charity’s work has<br>made to the<br>circumstances of its<br>beneficiaries and<br>any wider benefits to<br>society as a whole.|It has been a busy year at WPPS. As usual in September there was<br>a big change over in children with many having left for primary<br>school and new children joining the preschool, including a high<br>proportion of 2 year olds, which required an increase in staff<br>members to meet legal requirements for staff to children ratios. We<br>have had more children in the playgroup than ever before and have<br>increased the number of children at the setting.<br>The lunch club, which gives nursery age children the opportunity to<br>eat with their peers before being walked to the local primary school’s<br>nursery for afternoon session is now in its fifth year and continues<br>to be a success. The lunch club enables children to be taken across<br>to the primary school and in this way, means that parents can<br>access continuous childcare from 9-12:30pm during term time and<br>it also helps the children with the transition to attending the nursery<br>in the afternoons.<br>We were able to maintain staffing and offer of childcare when we<br>were allowed to open (due to COVID). Parents were refunded fees<br>when the children were not able to attend the playgroup.<br>A summary of our achievements are as follows: -<br>•<br>New and old parents continue to be active in fundraising<br>sessions and events such as the family discos and<br>fundraisers in the church including a family Christmas<br>concert organised by the mother and father of a nursery<br>child.|

- We have started to run outings via a forest school leader and plan to continue this into the new term.

## **Financial Review** 

|Review of the charity’s<br>financial position at the end<br>of the period|The account had a surplus of £18,120 this year (against a<br>surplus of £11,176 the previous year.<br>This highlights the need for the organisation with a very<br>healthy number of children and a long waiting list. We are<br>happy to add to our reserves and will look to use some of<br>this funding next year for children’s resources.|

|Explanation of any<br>uncertainties about the<br>charity continuing as a going<br>concern|WPPS continues to feel the impact of increased staffing costs<br>and static government funding for early years settings.<br>WPPS strives to attract and retain the best early years<br>practitioners and needs to be able to remunerate their staff<br>fairly.  We are now a London Living Wage employer and from<br>September 2022 now open from 8am to 3pm, 38 weeks of the<br>year. The aims of this is to offer better salaries for staff as well<br>as better support for parents.<br>WPPS maintains a healthy level of reserves and match<br>income and expenditure where possible. Over the coming<br>year, the Trustees aim to increase the level of reserves in line<br>with the reserves policy.  This will be achieved by extending<br>our hours, increasing fundraising efforts and increasing pupil<br>numbers through advertising and updating the preschool’s<br>website.<br>There is a healthy waiting list and as our hours extended our<br>financial position strengthened although the cost-of-living<br>crisis in late 2022 to present has increased resource cost.<br>There is also a level of uncertainty around the level of funding<br>the government intends to provide when extending it funded<br>childcare places and how this will impact WPPS’s financial<br>position.<br>WPPS is mindful of the faced in recruitment within the Early<br>years sector.|
