Trustees are elected at the Annual General Meeting. We welcome members and volunteers from the school and local community. We regularly advertise and encourage people to get involved, giving any time that they can.
Why was our charity set up and who do we help?
Friends of Barton School charity (FOBS) was set up in December 1993 and over the near 32 years since, the honour of continuing its legacy has been handed over and trusted to new parents joining the school time and time again. For 32 years, the charity has continued to run and be effective in its goal, which has relied completely on the generosity and selflessness of parents, carers, grandparents and others to support the culture and community of school life and help enrich the experience of the children and families who attend Barton Primary School.
Friends of Barton School supports the children and families of Barton Primary School, we also support the local community in bringing everyone together in events such as our Christmas Fayres, Quiz nights and Summer Fayres. We raise funds to provide additional educational items that statutory school funds cannot supply.
We welcome parents, grandparents, carers, guardians, teachers, staff members and anyone else wishing to support the school.
What have we been up to?
We are extremely proud to report that during 2024/2025 we managed to raise a huge sum of £88,622.91.
The year was certainly a busy one! With an initial fundraising goal set of £30,000, we knew that we were going to have to pull out all the stops, and be creative in ways to generate funds.
We joined JustGiving to enable us to receive online donations, and for individuals to set up fundraising pages and take on personal challenges whilst supporting our school. This helped in September 2024 when one school parent took on his School2Sea challenge kayaking more than 60 miles from Barton following the route of the River Cam and the Great Ouse to Kings Lynn and The Wash, raising an incredible £2060 for FOBS. Another parent also created a JustGiving page for Friends of Barton School, raising funds by taking on the York Marathon on 19[th] October 2025.
We joined Easyfundraising, enabling us to receive donations every time those that are registered shop online. We purchased a new Sum-up card machine to take card payments at events, increasing our revenue, and we signed up to Benevity which is a software platform that facilitates corporate donations.
It isn’t just FOBS and parents that have been putting in the work. In November 2024, four children from Year 6 ran their own Cake Sale raising funds for FOBS, which raised an incredible amount.
In November 2024 we collaborated with My Card Project to help Barton School children create Christmas artwork which was then turned into Christmas cards, mugs and more. Children were very excited to see their artwork turned into something special, that could be sent out to relatives and gifted as presents and as a bonus we raised £305.38.
Every year, we hold our Christmas Fayre, with stalls, games and even Santa making an appearance, it is always one of our most looked forward to events. It brings families and the community together embracing the festivities of the season, and our 2024 Christmas Fayre raised an incredible £1923.58.
With a year of dedicated fundraising and an ambitious goal, we had to come up with new ways of raising funds. One of those ideas was a village calendar, which was beautifully put
together by one of our committee members, and supported generously by local businesses, which helped to raise £787.03.
In March 2025, with the guidance and help of new parents to the school we put on our very first Pancake flipping event at Barton School, which saw some of the FOBS committee heading in to school on a sunny Tuesday morning, to challenge the children to a pancake flipping contest! Each child was given a frying pan and a tortilla to flip (we were reliably informed that tortillas are a lot easier to flip than an actual pancake) and with sixty seconds on the timer, it was an exciting challenge for the children to see how many times they could flip their ’pancake’ before the time ran out. We even managed to get the teachers involved in some friendly competition and we received positive feedback from the children, that they all had a great time. Children were asked to gather sponsorship from family and friends based on how many times they could flip their ‘pancake’ in sixty seconds, and collectively we raised £1272.80 which was amazing.
In March 2025 we held our Quiz night in Barton Village Hall. An event advertised to the whole Barton community, in which we hoped to bring everyone together for some fun trivia and socialising. Our biggest Quiz night in a long time, we had nearly fifty attendees who teamed up with friends and new acquaintances to try and be the quiz night champions. A community member and school volunteer took on the role of quiz master, giving up a lot of his own time to plan the quiz and deliver it on the night. Feedback was that it was a great night of trivia, with nibbles and drinks keeping everyone comfortable, and we raised £926.10.
In May 2025, we held a school disco for the children, at the end of SATS week, which is always a fantastic opportunity for the children to let their hair down and celebrate. Our disco lights were donated by previous parent of the school and committee member and one of our committee members put together an excellent playlist, which had the children busting moves and singing at the top of their voices. The children were kept refreshed with snacks and drinks, and we provided the Disco to all children as a free event to say thank you to the families for their incredible support to FOBS over the year.
In the Summer Term 2025, FOBS supported the school with Sports Day, providing refreshments, and keeping the children cool with free ice pops at the end of the day, raising £184.69 and in July 2025 we enjoyed Bartons Got Talent, which is always a fun night of entertainment, celebrating the children’s many talents. FOBS provided refreshments, including Pimm’s, strawberries and cream, hot dogs and more. Sparkle was added, with face sequins and temporary tattoos and we raised £509.60.
July 2025 played host to our Barton School Summer Fayre, with children’s entertainment, a band, stalls and games. We faced challenges with the weather, being one of the hottest days of the year, but lots of fun was had all round. We even managed to find the ‘village day’ tug of war rope, which saw children and adults getting involved, with some showing some superhuman strength. We raised a whopping £1035.14.
Along with the big events that take place during the year, we also organise a cake sale for each class, with the aim of raising money to lower costs for parents for school trips. Our combined cake sales this year raised £806.58.
As well as fundraising through events, we have seen some incredible donations from Barton school families and the wider community. We have been blown away by how generous people have been in supporting our school.

I report in respect of my examination of the Trust's accounts carried out under section 145 of the 2011 Act and in carrying out my examination, I have followed all the applicable Direction5 given by the Charity Commission under section 14515llbl of the Act. Independent I have completed my examination. I confinn that no material matters have examiner's statement come to my attention in connection with the examination which gives me Cause to believe thal in, any material respect.. the accounting COrdS were not kept in accordance with section 130 of the Charities Act- or the accounts did not accord with the accounting records,. or the accounts did not comply with the applicable requirements concerning the form and content of accounts sel out in the Charities {Accounls and Reports) Regulations 2008 other than any requirement that the accounts give a 'true and fairf view which is not a matter considered as part of an independenl examination.
