The AGM will be followed by this month’s speaker Andrea O’Brian who will be speaking about Cancer Research: History & Progress of Life-Saving Research .
Minutes of the South Bucks u3a 2024 AGM held on 16 July 2024 at the Beacon Centre, Beaconsfield, Bucks

Apologies were received from 4 members, two of whom appointed the Chairman as proxy in accordance with the revised Constitution.

Attendance at meeting
Caroline Searing (CS) confirmed that 68 members attended. Together with the two proxy votes this confirmed that the meeting met the 10% of membership requirement for the meeting to be quorate.

3. 2023 minutes
These were circulated with the AGM agenda. Keith Searing (KS) referred the minutes to the meeting for approval. By a show of hands, the minutes were accepted without amendment. KS will sign and date.

Chairman’s report KS referred to his report circulated with the 2024 AGM agenda and the members had no questions.

Treasurer’s report
This was also circulated with the 2024 AGM agenda and the members had no questions.

Receive and adopt the examined accounts The accounts were circulated with the agenda. Thanks were given to Pauline Keyne for examining them. Members had no questions, so Alan Cairns proposed and Ceri Watson seconded the motion that the accounts be adopted.

Examiner appointment for 2024/25. Pauline Keyne kindly stepped in to fill the vacancy created by Richard Worland stepping down and she has agreed to fulfil the role again next year.

Election of committee members
No nominations were received. KS noted that the situation is becoming serious with the treasurer, Doreen Seimon, wishing to relinquish the position in the new year due to rising work and family commitments. KS reiterated the need for more members to put themselves forward to serve on the committee, particularly in the treasurer role, as without a treasurer the group cannot continue.
9. Proposed motions No motions were proposed
- Any other business Monica Sado proposed a vote of thanks to the current committee for their continuing efforts which was warmly received by KS.
The convenor of the theatre visits group has recently changed with Chris Pearce taking over the role.
We are still looking for a convenor to take over the Garden visits group. Helpers are required for two forthcoming events: The Beaconsfield Country Fayre on the August Bank Holiday Monday and the Penn and Tylers Green Expo on September 14th 2024. Anyone interested in helping to contact the committee.
People to help look after the group’s equipment are needed: Trevor Coe wishes to retire from looking after Discovering Art and History groups.
As there were no questions KS brought the meeting to a close by thanking everyone for attending.
