Annual Report Nov 30th 2023 to 29[th] Nov 2024
For a couple of years Some of our Trustees have been attending the Pevensey Levels Farmer’s meetings. These were previously held courtesy of Montague Farm and now are held in the Lamb Inn, Wartling. Each meeting starts with a meal which is sponsored by a local company, recently the local water board. Specialist speakers are varied on subjects like rewilding, marshland birds, conservation and water-level management. However, while the speakers know their subject well, they are seldom able to present a coherent talk, often mumbling and talking to the screen instead of to the audience at the back as well as the front. We often have manpower problems with Dinty often ill which the Doctors can’t find a reason for and Wendy, our groom has had to stop the heavier horse work and become more part-time. She rarely stays in the caravan now and the |Trustees have had a meeting to consider what to do with it. Tony is due to see a specialist as his legs go weak sometimes and also fell off the haha severely damaging his shoulder and breaking a bone in his hand. Tony writes articles about the progress of the Charity for the Pevensey Parish Pump and is also working towards his second book for publication. Similarly, Tony still does talks about the work of the charity, mainly to Women’s Institutes.
Commented [TS1]:
A lady, Molly, offered to do and manage the website free. She set it up, but as has happened before, eventually she dropped out without letting us know beforehand. Similarly, we had several voluntary workers, including one named Jade which Tony had to go and pick up by car. She failed to answer her phone or be waiting at her house to be picked up so that ended quickly. Other volunteer mothers brought their daughters along to clear ragwort in the field but after one day of helping realised how difficult horse work was and didn’t come again. In mid-February out Shogun that pulls our rescue trailer broke down. It was discovered that rats had eaten through the wiring and we later discovered that the wiring came from Japan and the plastic coating is made using |Peanut oil which the rats love. The National Farmers Union failed to honour the insurance cover; indeed, made us send hours researching similar, somewhat rare vehicles, only to eventually completely disregarding all our meticulous work to give us a pittance for the insurance. After a lot of research, we found a similar, younger Shogun in Northampton which we went up and purchased. The Picasso that Tony drove, also packed up and was written off so a s/h small Nissan was purchased; cheap to run for the charity and easy to park.
In mid-May Tony was speaker on a cruise to Norway where he gave talks including one about the work of the charity; a free cruise though the agent charged a few hundred. Tony regularly attend the Hailsham market on a Friday morning and often manages to purchase cheap equipment like spades, mattock and other tools for the charity.
We have had a big clear-out from our old barn that Tony personally and physically built out of concrete blocks. This will eventually be knocked down but the steel uprights and roof will be rebuilt elsewhere for a tractor/implement shed.

Dear Tony
Independent Review
I write in connection with my preparation and examination of the Brownbread Horse Rescue financial statements. In my opinion, nothing has come to my attention which does not meet the requirements of the Charities Act.
The financial statements were prepared using the receipts and payments method and from information provided by yourself.
All invoices, receipts, bank statements and cashbooks were made available to me and all questions and explanations required have been answered in full
Kind Regards
