Trustees Annual Report 30[th] November 2019 to 29[th] November 2020

Our Trustees were pleased to be invited to the monthly Farmer’s talks locally that deal with environmental issues particularly as our farm has one of the highest numbers of species for any Wealden Meadow farm. Useful contacts and information has been gleaned.

The Trustee’s family have come to live on the farm which has been a great asset with the extra hands helping particularly when there has been an emergency lifting a horse. The Kawasaki Mule and chain saw have been serviced by Culverwells.

Dinty has been regularly providing copy and photos to Pegasus magazine which always prints these providing a large readership for the charity.

BBC Southeast have researched our information about the work we do including horses being dumped.

We had a pony, Oscar at Redcoats Orchard Farm but the owners could no longer keep him and their bric-a-brac outlet was being closed by the Council, which was sad as we had a good rapport with the owners, Roger and Sherry. We had been able to sell donated items via them.

In early April we had the Sewage engineer visit to assess our water supply and all was in good order. At the same time The Virus, Covid 19 appeared in the UK and Government restrictions came into force, although we still had visitors at two meter distances arriving with donations of items and feedstuffs. Trustees planned holidays had to be cancelled.

The Senlac Vets in Battle stopped doing large farm animals so we now have to use Cliff Vets based in Lewes which is further away although their horse hospital is a little closer in Laughton and we use them quite a lot; they will also visit us.

Our vehicles have always been serviced by a Local engineer, Harry Plews, but he is gradually retiring while his son, Richard takes over. Harry has also been an MOT inspector but now we will have to have our vehicles MOTed at Mount Pleasant Garage in Sidley.

Dinty has found the Shogun vehicle that pulls the horse trailer, very cumbersome to park so the Trustees have agreed to purchase a smaller car which is a Nissan and arrived in September. This has been a great asset for nipping into town to do business and cheaper to run.

Almost weekly there have been a steady stream of supporters donating tack for horse and rider; sometimes as much as can be stuffed in a car. Also hay and feed stuffs and in each case we have invited the donor to refreshments although some do not take up the offer because of the virus or too busy to stay.

It was interesting to meet Kathy Goddard who used to live and work on this farm and she brought many photos showing how things were over 50 years ago.

Tony published his book in September, “Four Legs and a Neigh” which consists of 38 of his poems and 10 stories all to do with Equines.

The rescue and rehabilitation of equines has continued with numbers on site fluctuating around 40 and several more out on loan under contract. The Charity has a good name and many supporters in the UK None of our close associates have contracted the Covid Virus.
