## **Achievements and performance** 

|<br> <br>Summary of the main<br>achievements of the charity,<br>identifying the difference the<br>charity’s work has made to<br>the circumstances of its<br>beneficiaries and any wider<br>benefits to society as a<br>whole.|<br> <br> Para 1.20|The 2019/20 academic year has been an<br>unprecedented time for all those involved in<br>the Pre-School due to the Covid-19<br>panademic. This caused the Pre-School to<br>close on Thursday 18thMarch 2020 in<br>accordance with Government guidance.<br>Throughout “Lockdown”, the Committee met<br>regularly (via Zoom) with our absolute priority<br>being the health and well-being of the<br>children and staff members. A core team of<br>three staff members was made available to<br>offer vital support to the children and their<br>parents and continue with the operational<br>aspects of the Pre-School. Each week the<br>children were sent “e-communications”<br>together with curriculum plans and the<br>Teaching Manager was available, on-line or<br>by phone, to answer any questions and<br>concerns from parents.<br>During “Lockdown”, we launched our new<br>website. The refreshed design is aimed at<br>promoting awareness of the Pre-School’s<br>activities to both current and future parents.<br>Following extensive planning by our staff<br>team, including parents’ surveys, risk<br>assessments and introducing new health and<br>safety protocols, the Pre-School was able to<br>re-open on Monday 15thJune.<br>The Pre-School continues to provide a high<br>quality care and education to all the children<br>attending. We have always had more<br>teachers each session than government<br>guidelines recommend which enables the<br>‘pack away’ pre-school to run smoothly but<br>also have plenty of staff on hand to meet the<br>children’s needs.<br>|

|Review of the charity’s<br>financial position at the end<br>of the period|Para 1.21|.<br>The 2019/20 Academic Year has certainly<br>proved to be an extremely challenging time<br>for all those associated with the Pre-School.<br>The enforced closure of the Pre-School on<br>Thursday 19thMarch, following the<br>Government’s announcement of<br>“Lockdown”, created a set of circumstances<br>of which none of us had any previous<br>experience. It is a credit to the Committee<br>and Staff, together with the continuing<br>support of the parents, that we were able to<br>survive the extended period of the<br>“Lockdown” and re-open the Pre-School on<br>15thJune to complete the Academic Year<br>with a very creditable financial result albeit a<br>small loss.<br>Whilst total income for the year equalled our<br>original budget, it was £3,500 less than the<br>previous year. No parents’ contributions<br>were received during the period of the<br>“Lockdown” and there was, understandably,<br>a much lower level of contributions received<br>when the Pre-School was re-opened for the<br>final few weeks of the summer term.<br>Support from OCC was maintained<br>throughout the year and Fundraising<br>projects received a very healthy contribution<br>from parents and members of the local<br>community.<br>The continued welfare of our loyal staff was<br>a key objective of the Committee and we<br>were grateful to receive support from the<br>Government’s Job Retention Scheme.<br>A satisfactory level of cost control was<br>maintained in all areas during the year with<br>Staff salaries being our most significant cost<br>centre.<br>Despite the recorded loss of £3,296, we<br>closed the academic year with a Bank<br>balance of £44,441 which is approximately<br>£9,000 above our stated Reserves.<br>We will be able to move into the new<br>Academic Year in good financial health and<br>keen to continue to provide a safe and<br>caring environment for children within our<br>local area.<br>|

Respective responsibilities of the trustees and examiner 

The charity’s trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts. The charity’s trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year under section 144 of the Charities Act 2011 (the Charities Act) and that an independent examination is needed 

Having satisfied myself that the charity is not subject to audit under company law and is eligible for independent examination, it is my responsibility to: 

- examine the accounts under section 145 of the Charities Act 

- to follow the procedures laid down in the general Directions given by the Charity Commission (under section 145(5)(b) of the Charities Act, and 

- to state whether particular matters have come to my attention. 

Basis of independent examiner's report 

My examination was carried out in accordance with the general Directions given by the Charity Commission. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeking explanations from you as trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit and consequently no opinion is given as to whether the accounts present a ‘true and fair view' and the report is limited to those matters set out in the statement below.

In connection with my examination, no matter has come to my attention: 

1. which gives me reasonable cause to believe that in, any material respect, the requirements: 

- to keep accounting records in accordance with section 130 of the Charities Act: and
